Thursday 6 October 2022 – Ash via Goodnestone and Staple

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance.

The walk is around 13 miles. Bring a packed lunch, although there is also a cafe and pub at Ash if preferred. Regular buses back to Canterbury.

Through the hospital, up to the rugby ground, Nackington, Whitehill woods, Middle Pett Farm, Bridge. Bifrons Park, Adisham, Goodnestone, Claypits, Staple, Ash.

The approach to Elham on last week’s walk:

Thursday 22 September 2022 – Temple Ewell via Broome Park

Meet at 8.30am, K&C, South Canterbury Rd entrance. The walk is 15 miles with regular buses from Temple Ewell.

Bring a packed lunch or snack.

Past the rugby ground to Nackington, Whitehill Woods, Middle Pett Farm, Hint Cottage. Elham Valley way to Bishopsbourne, Kingston, Heart’s Delight, Barham. Over the Broome Park golf course to the main entrance. Past Lyddon Circuit, Birches Farm, Stanton Farm to Ewell Minnis. Through the Minnis to Temple Ewell.

There are regular buses back from Temple Ewell. If you want a shorter walk (about 10 miles) there are regular buses from Broome Park or Denton.

Thursday 1 September 2022 – Herne Bay via Stodmarsh

Meet 8.30 at St Martins Church

About 15 miles with bus back from Herne Bay. Packed lunch or the Wallflower cafe. Short cut option of catching the bus back from Upstreet (about 9 miles).

Path to Fordwich, Stour Valley way to Stodmarsh road. Through Stodmarsh nature reserve to Grove Ferry. Then through Boyden gate on Saxon shore way to Hillborough and the coast. Walk along the sea front to Herne Bay, Wallflower cafe and bus.

Thursday 18 August – The Villages walk (clockwise)

Meet 8.30am St Martin’s Church

The walk is about 15 miles, with short cuts available from Littlebourne (by bus) or Patrixbourne (NDW back to Canterbury). There are ample churches for a lunch stop.

Pick up Stour Valley walk through Fordwich to Stodmarsh. Then to Wickhambreaux, Ickham, pass close to Littlebourne through Lower Garrington Farm, Bekesbourne, Patrixbourne, Bridge, Whitehill woods, Nackington, home past the rugby ground.

Bridge, Pett Bottom loop – Thursday, 4 August, 2002

Meet 8.30am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance

The walk is about 13 miles returning around 1pm, so bring a snack or lunch if required.

Through Nackington into Whitehill woods, over the Pett Bottom road and cross Elham Valley line down to the Bridge, Elham Valley walk to Bishopsbourne. At Charlton Park branch right and cross the Kingston road into Knowle wood. Walk down Covet Lane, cross to Marley Lane, Reed’s Mill, and join Pett Bottom valley route. Back through Lower Hardres and into Nackington to return via the rugby club.

Thursday 21 July – Denton, bus back

Meet at 8.30am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Rd entrance

The walk is 10m with a bus back from Denton. There is the option of The Jackdaw or home for lunch.

Through the hospital to the rugby field, over Nackington Road and take the path through the orchards to Whitehill Woods. Path along the Pett Bottom valley to Westwood, into Covert Wood to Bladbean Farm, Wingmore and Denton.

Regular no 17 buses back to Canterbury.

Denge Woods – Thursday 14 July

Meet at 8.30am, top of Nunnery Road.

The walk is 14 miles. Please bring a picnic/snack and plenty of water.

Nunnery Road, Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road. Through orchards to New House Lane, past New House Farm to Garlinge Green road. Enter Denge woods, Upper Thruxted Farm, to Mystole Road. Through Shalmsford Street and Chartham, home along the river.

Thursday 23 June 2022 – The Bottoms and Bossingham

Meet 8.30am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Rd entrance.

Walk is about 15 miles, returning around 1.30pm. Bring lunch or snack.

Past the rugby club, through Nackington, Whitehill woods, up to footpath behind Pett Bottom. Run along Pett Bottom valley to Lynsore Bottom, footpath to Bossingham, then Stelling Lodge farm to Stone Street. Cross to Dunlies wood, and join Duckpit at Ansdore. Walk down Duckpit and cross before Petham House to Capel Road, behind Kenfield Hall, cross Bridge Downs road onto footpath to New House Lane and home.

Thursday 9 June 2022 – Church and Thornden woods

Meet 8.30am at St Mary Bredin.

The walk is about 13 miles. At about 11 miles we will be at the UKC campus, so bring a packed lunch and/or have coffee at the Gulbenkian cafe.

Landsdown Road, Toddlers Cove, river walk to Tonford Manor, Bigbury on the NDW, Upper Harbledown, Church Wood. Cross the Whitstable Road at Blean, Amery Court, We’ll Court, Thornden Wood, Alcroft Grange, Little Hall Farm, Darwin, Gulbenkian and then back into Canterbury. Some people want to go to the lunchtime concert (free) at 1pm.

Thursday 19 May 2022 – North West Passage to Whitstable

Meet at 8.30am St Mary Bredin Church

The walk is about 11m with a bus back from Whitstable. Option of a visit to Wetherspoons or packed lunch by the sea.

Landsdown Rd to Canterbury East, Toddlers Cove, river walk to Tonford Manor. Tonford Lane to NDW, through Bigbury wood and right down to Poldhurst Farm. Over the A2 bridge into Willows and Church Wood, to Denstroude Farm and Lane through Ellenden Wood and Fox’s Cross. Walk along Seasalter Lane and footpath through Seasalter to the coast, approaching Whitstable by the beach huts and the Neptune.

Triangle bus back to Canterbury.
