Blean and Thornden wood circle – Thursday 2 December 2021

Meet 8.30am, St Mary Bredin Church

The walk is about 13 miles, returning into Canterbury around 12.30/1pm, so you might want to bring a snack.

Toddlers Cover, river towards Chartham. Turn right to Tonford Manor, Bigberry woods, Upper Harbledown, into Church Wood. Cross Whitstable Road and into Amery Court. Into Clowes Wood towards the junction of the Chestfield and Thornden Wood roads. Returning to Canterbury via Alcroft Grange and Hales Place estate.

Thursday 4 November 2021 – Fordwich, Adisham, Bishopsbourne loop

Meet 8.30am at St Martin’s Church

Stour Valley route to Fordwich and take right fork to Trenleypark Wood and Stanton Lane. Past the solar power station to Littlebourne, then past Lee Priory Farm to Bramling Downs. Through Adisham, Oxenden Wood, past Ileden Farm to join North Downs Way towards Bridge. Into Bishopsbourne for lunch/tea stop at Tadpoles (outside seating available) or packed lunch in Bishopsbourne churchyard. (About 11 miles)

Walk back to Canterbury (about 5 miles) or bus back from Bishopsbourne.

Meet 8.30am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Rd entrance.

Walk is about 15 miles, returning around 1.30pm. Bring lunch or snack.

Past the rugby club, through Nackington, Whitehill woods, up to footpath behind Pett Bottom. Run along Pett Bottom valley to Lynsore Bottom, footpath to Bossingham, then Stelling Lodge farm to Stone Street. Cross to Dunlies wood, and join Duckpit at Ansdore. Walk down Duckpit and cross before Petham House to Capel Road, behind Kenfield Hall, cross Bridge Downs road onto footpath to New House Lane and home.

Canterbury to Minster – Thursday 16 October 2021

Meet at 8.30am St Martins Church

14 miles with train back from Minster. The walk can be shortened by catching a bus back from Upstreet at around 8 miles.

Stour Valley walk to Fordwich, then to Stodmarsh. Through the Stodmarsh nature reserve to Grove Ferry. River path through Plucks Gutter to Minster. Trains back hourly.

Thursday 30 September 2021 – Villages walk

Meet at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance, at 8.30am.

We will go out past the rugby ground through Nackington, Whitehill Woods, skirt Lower Hardres, Bridge, Patrixbourne, bypass Littlebourne through Lower Garrington Farm, Ickham, Wickhambreaux, Stodmarsh, Fordwich and home along the cycle route to Canterbury.

About 14.5 miles, plenty of Church stopping off points for a snack on the way if you want to bring something.

Thursday 9 September 2021 – Selsted, bus back

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Rd entrance.

The walk is about 13/14 miles, but there is a short cut option to the bus stop at Denton which would probably make it about 11 miles.

Rugby field, Nackington, Middle Pett farm, Bourne Park. Elham Valley way through Kingston, Redgate Shaw, Covert Wood, cross the Elham road at Whitehall farm. Tappington Hall, Rakeshall farm, Selsted.

Bus 16 back (three buses an hour).

Thursday 26th August 2021 – Denge Woods via the river

Meet by St Mary Bredin’s Church, 8.30am

The walk is about 14 miles and we should be back before 2pm. Bring lunch or a snack if you like.

To Toddlers Cove, along the river to Chartham, Shalmsford Street, Denge Wood, Upper Thruxted Farm. Through to Garlinge Green, St Augustine’s housing estate, Oakfield Shaw, New House Lane and home.

Thursday 12 August 2021 – Stour Valley Walk to Ash

Meet at 8.30am at St Martin’s Church

Take the Stour Valley Walk to Fordwich, Stodmarsh, through the RSPB reserve to Grove Ferry. Continue on SVW to West and East Stourmouth, Westmarsh and Ash.

There is Julies farm shop and cafe at Ash, which has not been tried but might be suitable for coffe/tea or lunch.

The walk is about 13 miles, with regular buses back from Ash.

Thursday 22 July, 2021 – Wye via Crundale, train back

Meet at 8.30am at the junction of Nunnery Fields/Road

The walk is about 11 miles to Wye, with a train back to Canterbury West.

Trains are hourly. We should be ok for the 13.11 but may have to get the one after that.

Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road, up to New House Lane, path from New House Farm to Chartham Downs Road. Cross to Kenfield Hall, to Capel Farm, through Denge Woods to Sole Street and Crundale Church. Thence past Marriage Farm and down to Wye.
