Thursday 9 February 2023 – The Bottoms and Bossingham

Meet 8.30am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance

The route is about 14 miles, returning around 1.30pm so bring a packed lunch if required.

Past the rugby field, Nackington Road, Nackington, Whitehill Woods, Little Eaton Farm. Path along Pett Bottom valley to Westwood Farm, then take path through Lynsore Bottom, to Bossingham. Then footpath to Bossingham Church, Stone Street, Dane Chantry, Petham. Through Kenfield Hall parkland to the Chartham Downs road. Path through Rabbit Wood to New House Farm, back to Canterbury.

Thursday 26 January 2023 – Villages walk (clockwise)

Meet 8.30am St Martin’s Church

The walk is about 15 miles, with short cuts available from Littlebourne (by bus) or Patrixbourne (NDW back to Canterbury). There are ample churches for a lunch stop.

Pick up Stour Valley walk through Fordwich to Stodmarsh. Then to Wickhambreaux, Ickham, pass close to Littlebourne through Lower Garrington Farm, Bekesbourne, Patrixbourne, Bridge, Whitehill woods, Nackington, home past the rugby ground.

Thursday 12 January 2023 – Herne Bay (largely mud free route)

Meet 8.30am, St Mary Bredin Church

The route is about 13 miles, with a bus back from Herne Bay. Optional lunch at the Wallflower Cafe. Short cut by taking the bus back from Whitstable or Tankerton. The route is largely mud free because it follows the cycle route towards Whitstable and then the promenade to Herne Bay.

Toddlers Cove, London Road Roundabout, Lower Harbledown, bridge to Neal’s Place, Water Tower, cycle route to Whitstable. Branch off to Tankerton, promenade through Seasalter, Hampton Pier to Herne Bay.

Thursday 29 December 2022 – NDW, Shalmsford St and the river

Meet 8.30am at the junction of Nunnery Fields and Road.

The route is about 12 miles returning before 1pm.

Follow the North Downs Way out of Canterbury through Bigbury Woods, No Man’s Orchard, Chartham Hatch. Before Old Wives Lees turn down towards Shalmsford St and back along the river path.

Thursday 8 December 2022 – Selsted via Pett Bottom

Meet at 8.30 K&C hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance

The walk is about 12 miles, with regular buses back from Selsted. We’ll probably be back in Canterbury 1-2pm, so bring a picnic lunch if required.

Past the rugby ground, cross Nackington road, past Nackington, through Whitehill Woods, Little Eaton Farm. Footpath behind Pett Bottom to Westwood Farm, Covert Wood, Bladbean Farm, Wingmore, North Elham, Rakeshole Farm, Selsted.

Thursday 24 November 2022 – Selling, train back

Meet 8.30am, junction of South Canterbury and Nunnery Road

The walk is about 14 miles, with a train back from Selling. Trains leave at 13.31, 14.31. The fare is £4.30 without a rail card. Packed lunch advised. There is a cafe near the station but we might not arrive in time to use it.

Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road, the orchards and footpath up to New House Lane. Footpath to the Downs Road, which we cross and walk to Garlinge Green. Then into Denge Woods, Upper Thruxted Farm, Eggarton Lane, Godmersham, Dane Street. Over the Challock road to Shottenden, Perry Wood and Selling.

Thursday 10 November – Denge Wood circle

Meeting at 8.30am, St Mary Bredin

The walk is about 14 miles circular so we should be home by around 1.30/2pm. So packed lunch or snack advised.

Toddlers Cove, river walk to Chartham. Stour Valley Walk to Mystole Road, into Denge Wood. Cross Penny Pot Lane by Upper Thruxted Farm and through the woods to Garlinge Green, St Augustines, New House Lane and home.

Thursday 27 October 2022 – North Downs Way loop

Meet at 8.30am, St Mary Bredin Church

The walk is about 12.5 miles circular, so we should be back in Canterbury around 1pm. Bring a packed lunch or snack if required.

Toddler Cove, Westgate Gardens, Victorian recreation ground, NDW through Bigbury woods, Chartham Hatch to Old Wives Lees. Down through Bowerland Farm to cross the Chilham Road into Pickelden Lane. Shalmsford Street, Chartham, river path back to Canterbury.

Thursday 13 October 2022 – Petham, Bossingham circle

Meet 8.30am at the junction of Nunnery Fields and Nunnery Road.

The walk is about 16 miles, so we won’t be back until after 2pm. Please bring a packed lunch or snack.

Zealand Road, Lime Kiln, New House Lane, St Augustine’s, Garlinge Green. Capel Wood, Hault Farm, Ansdore, Dunlies wood. Cross Stone Street and then along the edge of Upper Hardres word to Bossingham. Then Pett Bottom valley back to White Hill wood and back home through Nackington.

Thursday 6 October 2022 – Ash via Goodnestone and Staple

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance.

The walk is around 13 miles. Bring a packed lunch, although there is also a cafe and pub at Ash if preferred. Regular buses back to Canterbury.

Through the hospital, up to the rugby ground, Nackington, Whitehill woods, Middle Pett Farm, Bridge. Bifrons Park, Adisham, Goodnestone, Claypits, Staple, Ash.
