A very pleasant walk to Dover last week:

Thursday, 19 July, 2018 – Canterbury to Dover (Packed Lunch)

Meet outside 25 St Augustine’s Road 8:30

Packed lunch to be eaten en route

Proceed on NDW as far as Patrixbourne then yellow roads and footpaths to Womenswold rejoining NDW and proceeding to Sibertswold. We continue to Coldred on NDW but then leave it in favour of yellow roads to Whitfield, where we weave through footpath and streets to get over to the footpath running by the side of the A2 and later crossing A256. We then rejoin NDW, to and through the necropolis and into Dover and then to Dover Priory station.

Estimated distance 17 miles

Trains from Dover Priory to Canterbury East, cost £5.60 with railcard:
14:18; 14:52; 15:18; 15:48; 16:20; 16:55.

Last week’s walk from Lenham to Canterbury:

Thursday, 12 July, 2018 – Lenham to Canterbury (Packed Lunch)

**PACKED LUNCH**
Meet at Canterbury West station to catch 9:05 direct train to Lenham (arrives 09:46) cost £8:80 for return ticket with railcard – this gives the possibility of catching the train back to Canterbury at any time from Chilham on the way back.

From Lenham Station we walk up to the NDW, crossing the A20, then in the direction of Stalisfield, Bells Forestal and Badlesmere (taking lunch somewhere before we arrive at Badlesmere) – there is the Red Lion at Badlesmere where may wish to stop for a drink before continuing (lunch at the pub was not a memorable experience last time we tried it, thus ‘packed lunch’).

In the afternoon we proceed to Shottenden, then Old Wives Leas, rejoining the NDW and later cutting down to the SVW before we get to Chartham Hatch and then continuing into Canterbury, arriving at Toddlers Cove.

Distance 22 miles (or less if one takes the train at Chilham or Chartham)
