Thursday 28 July, 2016 – The Swimming Walk – Sandwich to Northbourne

Thursday – 28 JULY, 2016

BRING A PACKED LUNCH

13A Bus to Sandwich – arrives 9:08

Catch the bus at the Bus Station 8:25 or some minutes later at the Barton Court stop (outside the prison – JP will board the bus here).

£3:70 single, cheaper for a return or an explorer ticket and use it for the return journey from Northbourne.

Walk from the centre of Sandwich to the mouth of the Stour and then back a little way to find a suitable bathing spot.

BRING SWIMMING TRUNKS (might be ok without as the spot we have in mind is an unofficial nudist bathing area) – a towel might be useful.

After the dip we proceed along the coast by Sandwich Bay and Worth. Stop somewhere to eat our lunch.

At Groyne we take a footpath inland towards Little Downs Bridge and Blue Pigeon Farm

Along Pinnock Wall/Hacklinge/Adelaide/Finglesham/Northbourne, where there is a pub for those in need of a beer

From Northbourne there is one bus an hour ‘bus 14’:

13:45 – unlikely

14:46 – most likely (1hr 9 mins) – cost shows as £5:30 so the Explorer ticket looks a sensible investment if one does not have a bus pass.

15:58 – unlikely

Selling to Wye Thursday, 14th July, 2016

IMG_0487 This is a walk from Selling to Wye. Vasco (aka J Pike of this Parish) has allowed me to guest edit this week.

We get the 0848 from Cant East to Selling (£4). Meet at station.

We alight at 0857 and proceed via Selling village, Perrywood lookout, Shottenden, Wytherling Court, Molash Church, Challock, down towards Eastwell Manor, then straight on towards Kennington instead of left to Boughton Aluph.

Lunch at the Old Mill, Kennington (on main Cant-Ashford Rd but approach and leave via a small lane and a footpath). This is highly recommended by Big Graham at the gym, for those who know him.

The pub is 10-11 miles I calculate, so I would book for 1.30.

It’s then 2.5 miles to Wye station.

Back from Wye on 1509 or 1539 (they are every hour on these times) £5.50

Total walking 12-13 miles though it might be a bit more as my distance calculating method is v rough and ready.

I think I’ll need to make a booking at the Old Mill so could you reply reasonably soon to John or preferably me.

See you Thursday

Don

IMG_0413last week’s walk to charing – between badlesmere and charing – great walk, even though we got soaked within the first hour – later it cleared and by old wives leas we decided to carry on.  about 18/19 miles.  there is no pub in charing any more but we did find a very good tea room, where toasted tea cakes, strawberry jam and pots of tea revived us before heading to the station for the direct train to canterbury west.
