Thursday 23 November 2023 – Ash via Goodnestone

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance.

The walk is around 13 miles. Bring a packed lunch, although there is also a cafe and pub at Ash if preferred. Regular buses back to Canterbury. A shorter version would be possible by taking the yellow road from Adisham to Bramling and getting the bus there.

Through the hospital, up to the rugby ground, Nackington, Whitehill woods, Middle Pett Farm, Bridge. Bifrons Park, Adisham, Goodnestone, Claypits, Staple, Ash.

Thursday 9 November 2023 – North West Passage to Whitstable


Meet at 8.30am St Mary Bredin Church

The walk is about 11m with a bus back from Whitstable. Option of a visit to Wetherspoons, cafe or packed lunch.

Landsdown Rd to Canterbury East, Toddlers Cove, river walk to Tonford Manor. Tonford Lane to NDW, through Bigbury wood and right down to Poldhurst Farm. Over the A2 bridge into Willows and Church Wood, to Denstroude Farm and Lane through Ellenden Wood and Fox’s Cross. Walk along Seasalter Lane and footpath through Seasalter to the coast, approaching Whitstable by the beach huts and the Neptune.

Triangle bus back to Canterbury.

Thursday 26 October 2023 – Denge woods

Meet at 8.30am, top of Nunnery Road.

The walk is 14 miles, so we should be back around 2pm. Please bring a picnic/snack and plenty of water.

Nunnery Road, Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road. Through orchards to New House Lane, past New House Farm to Garlinge Green road. Enter Denge woods, Upper Thruxted Farm, to Mystole Road. Through Shalmsford Street and Chartham, home along the river.

Thursday 12 October 2023 – The Villages walk (anti-clockwise)

Meet at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance, at 8.30am.

We will go out past the rugby ground through Nackington, Whitehill Woods, skirt Lower Hardres, Bridge, Patrixbourne, bypass Littlebourne through Lower Garrington Farm, Ickham, Wickhambreaux, Stodmarsh, Fordwich and home along the cycle route to Canterbury.

About 15 miles, with plenty of opportunities to stop for lunch at one of the churches. Short cut by taking the bus back from Littlebourne or Sturry.

Thursday 14 September 2023 – Wye via the river and NDW

Meet 8.30am St Mary Bredin Church.

The walk is about 13 miles, with a train back from Wye. Bring a packed lunch or snack.

Short cut possibility by taking train or bus back from Chilham.

Through Toddlers cove, along the river route to Chartham, Shalmsford Street. Via Stile farm to Chilham. Mountain street and North Downs Way through Kings Wood. Wye via Perry Court Farm shop.

Thursday 7th September 2023 – A tour around selected water bodies


A 12 mile saunter deep in the countryside, returning by bus.

There is a shorter option, 5 or 6 miles, catching a bus back from Littlebourne.

Meeting at :
67 St Augustines Road at 8:30.

We then go direct to Patrixbourne, skirting south of Garrington, then Littlebourne, Seaton, Preston Court, Grove Ferry.

Options you may enjoy :-
Watercress and or blackberry gathering (bring a bag or box).
Food at Grove Ferry (meal or snack) or take your own packed lunch.

Wednesday Walk – 6 September 2023

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.

The main part of the walk will circle Barton Down. Probably the last opportunity to pick blackberries this season.

SSS302 – Tuesday 5 September 2023 – Stuppington variation

Meet 8am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance

Through the hospital, onto the cycle route and past the rugby field. Cross the bridge and turn right into Merton Lane until we reach Merton Farm. Take the footpath towards Lower Heppington and turn right until we reach Iffin Lane. Footpath linking Iffin with New House Lane, and then alongside the Road and eventually into Wincheap. About 6 miles.

Thursday 24 August 2023 – Westgate to Ramsgate coastal walk

Meet 8.30 Canterbury Bus Station for the 8.40 No8 bus to Thanet (stand C2)

This is the last opportunity to travel free on the bus before 9.30am. The walk is about 13 miles on flat and easy surface, with the option of going back by train or bus from Broadstairs if you want a shorter walk.

We will get off at Westgate and walk along the coast through Margate, Cliftonville, Broadstairs to Ramsgate. Bring a packed lunch, although there is also the option of lunch at the huge Ramsgate Wetherspoons based by the beach in the Royal Victoria Pavilion.

There is the option of getting the train to Canterbury West from Ramsgate (under 30 minutes) or getting two buses back, via Margate, which takes about 1.5 hours. The first has the advantage of speed, but has the disadvantage that we have to walk to Ramsgate station and from Canterbury West station at the other end.

Thursday 10 August 2023 – Folkestone to Kearsney Abbey

Meet 8.25am, Bay D1 at Canterbury Bus Station.

Take 8.30 no. 16 bus to Folkestone. This bus leaves Canterbury along the New Dover Road, so the stops at Waitrose or further up the road are an option.

The walk is about 12 miles, with a lunch stop at Kearsney and a bus back from Temple Ewell.

We will get off at Folkestone bus station (arr 9.17) and walk though the town, along the Old High Street and the Harbour, past the Martello Towers on the coast and then take the England Coast Path up the cliffs. The walk to Dover is along the cliff top, past Samphire Hoe and Shakespeare Cliff. Then through Aycliff, past the Western Heights into Dover.

There is the option of a finishing the walk at that point (about 9 miles) and getting the bus 15 back to Canterbury. However, the walk will proceed through Dover and along the Dour Valley path, past Crabble Mill and River to Kearsney Abbey, where we can stop for lunch. Picnic advised, although there is a cafe at the Abbey.

We catch the regular bus no. 15 back from Temple Ewell, which is about 1 mile from Kearsney.
