Through Toddlers Cove to London Road roundabout. North Downs Way through Chartham Hatch to Old Wives Lees. Down to the A23, railway and river crossing near Bagham. Shalmsford Street, Chartham, Horton, river crossing and back along the Stour.

Thursday – 27 August, 2020 Canterbury Outer Ring (Part 2)

Meet outside St. Martin’s Church @ 8:30am

We take the Stour Valley Way to Fordwich, where we join the Canterbury Outer Ring. The route crosses Stodmarsh Road, Swanton Lane and by footpath to Littlebourne and later towards Patrixbourne parallel with Bekesbourne Lane. From Patrixbourne we take footpaths to Bridge, later through Whitehill Woods to Lower Hardes, then up to Bridge Road crossing Nackington Road, Iffin Lane, finishing the route when we get to New House Lane. Estimated length of whole route 16 miles.

Thursday – 20 August, 2020 Canterbury Outer Ring (Part1)

Meet at the top of Nunnery Road, where it joins Nunnery Fields at 8:30am

THE Outer Ring is shown at 21.6 miles, in addition one has to walk to the outer ring from Canterbury, then back to Canterbury at the conclusion of the walk. On Thursday’s walk we shall walk part of it, about 16/18 miles (including walking to and from the Outer Ring).

We take the footpath from Zealand Road to Hollow Lane, then on to New House Lane and join the Outer Ring where it crosses into Larkey Valley Woods. The route takes footpaths over Cockering Road and to the other side of the Stour then along by the lakes to Tonford Lane, where we turn left in the direction of Upper Harbledown. We take the footpath up to Church Wood, then Blean, towards St. Cosmus & St. Damian Church, following the footpath, which leads to the The Tyler’s Kiln Public House. The footpath then goes close to the River Tyler towards Broad Oak.  Heel Lane, then Mayton Lane lead to the Golden Lion, Broad Oak and from their we follow the footpath to Sturry, then Fordwich and then take the Stour Valley Way back to Canterbury.

Meet 8.30am at St Mary Bredin.

Through Toddler’s Cove, NDW to Chartham Hatch, Denstead wood, Forresters Lodge farm, over the A2 bridge to Dunkirk, Bosenden farm, North Bishopden wood, Blean woods, Rough Common, back into Canterbury on footpath from the water tower.

About 13 miles, mainly in woodland.

Meet outside St. Martin’s Church at 8:30

Packed lunch – to be eaten en route

SVW to Fordwich. Footpath to the South of Westbere Lakes then up, over the railway line, through Westbere and the streets of Sturry to footpaths to the East of Herne Bay Road towards Woodlands Farm then crossing the road into Farthings Wood. Through East Blean Wood but working down towards Hackington, St Stephen’s Green and back into Canterbury (12/13 miles).

15/16 miles, home around 2pm. Bring packed lunch or snack.

Meet at 8.30am by St Mary Bredin Church

Through Toddlers Cove and then along the river to Chartham and Shalmsford Street. Stour Valley Way and cycle route to edge of Denge Woods, then up to Upper Thruxted Farm, through the woods to Buckholt Farm. Through Capel Wood to Kenfield Hall, over the Downs road and footpath to New House Farm and back to Canterbury.

Meet outside 25 St Augustine’s Road @ 8:30am

Follow NDW to Patrixbourne then Shepherds’ Close Road to Bridle Path, yellow road, Woodlands Wood, Cooling Downs down to Pond Lane. Footpath over to behind Nonington then a network of footpaths, finally leading into Chillenden. Leave Chillenden by footpath to Goodnestone then another footpath, which takes us to Love Lane and then back to Canterbury via Adisham.

Distance approx 18 miles

Meet by Abbotts Barton Walk – next to Ben’s house @ 8:30am

Then ODR/Landsdown Road/Toddler’s Cove/Whitehall Road/St. Dunstan’s Terrace/The Cemetery/footpath up to Rough Common.

Later out of the woods, crossing A290 at Blean, taking the footpath to Amery Court and then into Clowes Wood. At Gypsy Corner cross into Thornden Wood, then West Blean Wood, New Road then cut down by the side of Belce Wood and onto Broad Oak Road/Sturry/Fordwich and back along SVW to Canterbury.

Socially distanced walk (2 metres)

Meet at junction of Stuppington Lane with South Canterbury Road at 8:30am

PACKED LUNCH

Proceed to New House Lane then into Larkey Valley Wood to Chartham Downs Road. Then we take the yellow road by Perry Hill Shaw and the footpath that eventually leads to Sappington Court then footpath to Kenfield Road. We now cross over the yellow road for the footpath to Swarling Manor Farm later crossing Stone Street and taking the footpath by Harmansole Farm to Lower Hardes, then past the Church and through Whitehill Wood and over Bridge Road for the path to Renville and over the quiet bridge, finally crossing New Dover Road and to the Hode Farm lane and footpaths to join the NDW/EVW path, past Barton Industrial Estate into Pilgrims’ Way and St Augustine’s Road where the walk finishes. 12 miles.
