Thursday – 20 August, 2020 Canterbury Outer Ring (Part1)

PACKED LUNCH

Meet at the top of Nunnery Road, where it joins Nunnery Fields at 8:30am

THE Outer Ring is shown at 21.6 miles, in addition one has to walk to the outer ring from Canterbury, then back to Canterbury at the conclusion of the walk. On Thursday’s walk we shall walk part of it, about 16/18 miles (including walking to and from the Outer Ring).

We take the footpath from Zealand Road to Hollow Lane, then on to New House Lane and join the Outer Ring where it crosses into Larkey Valley Woods. The route takes footpaths over Cockering Road and to the other side of the Stour then along by the lakes to Tonford Lane, where we turn left in the direction of Upper Harbledown. We take the footpath up to Church Wood, then Blean, towards St. Cosmus & St. Damian Church, following the footpath, which leads to the The Tyler’s Kiln Public House. The footpath then goes close to the River Tyler towards Broad Oak.  Heel Lane, then Mayton Lane lead to the Golden Lion, Broad Oak and from their we follow the footpath to Sturry, then Fordwich and then take the Stour Valley Way back to Canterbury.
