Thursday 22 July, 2021 – Wye via Crundale, train back

Meet at 8.30am at the junction of Nunnery Fields/Road

The walk is about 11 miles to Wye, with a train back to Canterbury West.

Trains are hourly. We should be ok for the 13.11 but may have to get the one after that.

Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road, up to New House Lane, path from New House Farm to Chartham Downs Road. Cross to Kenfield Hall, to Capel Farm, through Denge Woods to Sole Street and Crundale Church. Thence past Marriage Farm and down to Wye.

Meet outside St Mary Bredin Church at 8.30am

Proceed through town to Toddler’s Cove, then towards the Cemetery – footpath to Church Wood. Through the Wood to Courtenay Road, then Victory Wood, later crossing Pean Hill taking footpaths leading to the Crab and Winkle route; through the University, working our way back to Canterbury. Approx. 14 miles.

Thursday 8 July, 2021 – The Pet Circle

Meet at junction of Nunnery Road with Nunnery Fields at 8:30am

Elevenses stop for tea/coffee and a bun if you wish to bring this with you.

We make our way to New House Lane by the usual route, eventually crossing Chartham Downs Road to Kenfield Road into Petham CP and Capel Wood. We work our way towards Stone Street, crossing Waltham Road and Duckpit Road, then across to Hogg Lane, Bow Hill (using more yellow roads today to avoid the mud), Catt’s Wood Road and, at Well Wood, taking the footpath towards the yellow road, which is Tapleys Hill, arriving at Pett Bottom. The usual route back from here, via Whitehill Wood, Nackington, the Rugby Club, the Langton and back to Stuppington Lane. Approx: 13 miles.

Thursday 1 July – Selsted, with bus back

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Rd entrance.

Bus back so please bring a face mask. The walk is about 14 miles, but there is a short cut option to the bus stop at Denton which would probably make it about 11 miles.

Rugby field, Nackington, Middle Pett farm, Bourne Park. Elham Valley way through Kingston, Redgate Shaw, Covert Wood, cross the Elham road at Whitehall farm. Tappington Hall, Rakeshall farm, Selsted. 

Bus 16 back (three buses an hour).

Meet outside 25 St Augustine’s Road at 8:30

Proceed in direction of Spring Lane then footpath to Beskesbourne Road, Palmstead Wood, Firdown Wood then crossing A257 into Swanton Lane – take footpath to Littlebourne,then to Ickham – maybe elvenses at Ickham.

Ickham to Wingham and then footpath to Snakes Hill and down to Bossingham then Adisham and back to Canterbury via Patrixbourne and Hode Lane.

Meet 8.30am K&C Hospital

Bring packed lunch/snack. Walk is about 15 miles so we should be back around 2pm

Past the rugby field, Nackington, White Hill wood, Pett Bottom valley. Road past Burstead Manor to Bossingham. Cross Stone St, Ansdore, Waltham Court. Capel Wood, Kenfield Hall, cross Downs road and then normal route to New House Lane and home.

Meet outside St. Augustine’s Abbey @ 8:30am

Packed lunch/elevenses

Head for St. Radigund’s then St. Stephen’s Green and Hackington. Take footpath past Little Hall Wood, later Mayton Lane and onto Belce Wood then Farthings Wood – cross A291 towards Woodlands Farm and follow footpath to Sturry. We make our way through the housing estate, coming out on the A28, which we cross and walk into Westbere heading for the railway crossing towards the lakes. We take the footpath through the lakes towards Fordwich, from where we take the SVW back to Canterbury – the walk finishes by St. Martin’s Church.

Approx 13 miles.

Meet 8.30am, St Martin’s Church

The walk is about 14 miles, returning about 1.30/2pm, so bring a snack or lunch.

Stour Valley walk to Fordwich, Stodmarsh Rd to Stodmarsh. Then to Wickhambreaux, Ickham, Lower Garrington Farm, Bekesbourne, Patrixbourne (short cut back on the NDW for those who want a shorter walk). Bridge, Middle Pett Farm, Whitehill wood, Nackington, home.

Meet outside K & C (junction of Ethelbert Road with South Canterbury Road) @ 8:30am

Footpath to the Rugby Club then onward to Nackington, Whitehill Wood and Pett Bottom then through Gorsley Wood towards Westward Farm. We take the footpath to Marley Lane and follow this down to Kingston, then footpath to Bishopsbourne, onwards to Bridge, Patrixbourne and back to Canterbury via the Barton Estate. 13 miles.
