Nunnery Road/Zealand Road/Lime Kiln Road/Fields to Hollow Lane/Footpath to New House Lane and then we take the footpath leading to Chartham Downs but turn off towards St. Augustine’s when we arrive at the wood. After walking through the wood we cross the recreation ground turning right on the return path leading to Larkey Valley, later joining Cockering Road and proceed onwards to the A2/retail park junction, crossing the various turn-offs to the A2 and finding the footpath to Wincheap School, later Oxford Road/Norman Road where the walk ends.
Meet at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance, at 8.30am.
We will go out past the rugby ground through Nackington, Whitehill Woods, skirt Lower Hardres, Bridge, Patrixbourne, bypass Littlebourne through Lower Garrington Farm, Ickham, Wickhambreaux, Stodmarsh, Fordwich and home along the cycle route to Canterbury.
About 15 miles, with plenty of opportunities to stop for picnic lunch at one of the churches. Short cut by taking the bus back from Littlebourne or Sturry.
As usual meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.
The weather forecast is for a low chance of light rain showers. The walk will follow as close as possible the route of the dismantled Crab and Winkle Line as far as Tyler Hill. Crossing the Hackington Road we will follow a path alongside Great Hall Wood before turning right across a field and then crossing the Sarre Penn at Alcroft Grange. We will return to the city centre via Hales Place.
