Thursday 15 February 2024 – Wye via Waltham

Meet 8.30am, Junction of Nunnery Fields and Nunnery Road

The walk is about 13 miles, with a train back from Wye. Trains at 12.56 and 13.56. Bring a packed lunch, although there is also the alternative of lunch at one of the cafes/pubs.

The route takes our normal path out alongside New House Lane, over the Chartham Downs road past Kenfield Hall. Then into Capel Wood to Anvil Green, Waltham, Doves wood, Hassell Street, Coombe Manor to the top of the Downs over Wye.

Wednesday Walk – 14 February, 2024

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee.

 
Rain is in the forecast and this will be taken into consideration in deciding on where we walk.

SSS 324 – Tuesday 13 February, 2024 – Reverse The Woolton Farm Walk

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:00 am

Spring Lane, the footpath past Little Barton House by the railway line then along Bekesbourne Lane taking the second footpath on the left through Woolton Farm, past Farthings Wood and shortly afterwards taking a left into Court Wood towards Littlebourne Road, at the end of this footpath we take the footpath to the left, towards Firdown Wood but turn right before Palmstead Wood proceeding towards the Hoath Farm (footpath).  Bekesbourne Lane to Worcester Lane then through the orchards back to Spring Lane (where the walk concludes) via Little Barton House. 6 miles

Thursday, 8 February, 2024 – Lyminge to Folkestone

Meet @ 8:20 Canterbury Bus Station (Bay D1) to catch 8:25, No: 17 Bus to Lyminge

Please bring a packed lunch and something to drink

Walk from Lyminge EVW in the direction of Newington then bridleway taking us past Shearin’s Bungalow and down to Peene Quarry Country Park.  We continue along the top of Northcliffe, Folkestone White Horse, following the NDW and SSW, later passing Caesar’s Camp and up to Round Hill.  We follow Crete Road East until the footpath down to the Martello Tower and then onwards to the Harbour and centre of Folkestone, where we take the 16 Bus back to Canterbury (3 buses an hour).

About 10 miles.

Wednesday Walk – 7 February, 2024

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for two hour walk followed by coffee in a city centre cafe.

Because the weather forecast is for rain a decision will be made on the day regarding the route we take.

The pic taken on the walk last week is another in the series where the cathedral can be seen in the distance. The location is near Howfield Farm.

Thursday 1 February 2024 – Denge Wood via the river

Meeting 8.30am, Launderette opposite St Mary Bredin

The walk is about 14 miles circular so we should be home by around 2pm. So packed lunch or snack advised.

Toddlers Cove, river walk to Chartham. Stour Valley Walk to Mystole Road, into Denge Wood. Cross Penny Pot Lane by Upper Thruxted Farm and through the woods to Garlinge Green, St Augustines, New House Lane and home.

A shorter option is possible by getting a bus from Shalmsford Street.

Wednesday Walk – 31 January, 2024

Wednesday Walkers will meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am. All welcome.
 
The walk will take us to the Rough Common recreation field where cricket has been played since 1867
 We’ll take a path through Stock Wood to the outskirts of Harbledown and make our way back to the city
via Tonford and the river path.
The weather forecast is for sunny intervals and a moderate breeze.

SSS 322 – Tuesday 30 January, 2024 – Travelling Riverside Blues Walk

Meet at the top of Nunnery Road where it meets Nunnery Fields at 8:00am 

Nunnery Road down to Martyr’s Field, past Wincheap School, cross A28 and through Riverside Retail Park, bridge across the Stour to SVW and onward to Westgate Gardens.  We re-connect with the river by the Miller’s Arms, Sainsburys, under the bridge, up to Vauxhall Lakes then turning eastwards, crossing the A28 and heading to the SVW (and cycle path) but now heading south-westwards in the direction of St. Martin’s Church.  We turn right when we arrive at the A257 (Littlebourne Road), heading towards the Abbey then left towards Old Dover Road, where the walk finishes at the Cross Keys crossroads.
