Thursday 9 September 2021 – Selsted, bus back

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Rd entrance.

The walk is about 13/14 miles, but there is a short cut option to the bus stop at Denton which would probably make it about 11 miles.

Rugby field, Nackington, Middle Pett farm, Bourne Park. Elham Valley way through Kingston, Redgate Shaw, Covert Wood, cross the Elham road at Whitehall farm. Tappington Hall, Rakeshall farm, Selsted.

Bus 16 back (three buses an hour).

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road @ 8:30am

The route is shown as 14 miles on the Slow Ways website.

There will be one or two brief stops to enjoy a snack/drink, so bring something along if you so wish.

This is the route:

From Sandwich we return on the number 43 bus: 13:21, 13:41, 14:01, 14:21, 14:41. Journey time shown as 46 minutes.

Meet by St Mary Bredin’s Church, 8.30am

The walk is about 14 miles and we should be back before 2pm. Bring lunch or a snack if you like.

To Toddlers Cove, along the river to Chartham, Shalmsford Street, Denge Wood, Upper Thruxted Farm. Through to Garlinge Green, St Augustine’s housing estate, Oakfield Shaw, New House Lane and home.

Thursday 19 August, 2021 – The Pet Circle (in reverse)

Meet outside the hospital (junction of South Canterbury Road and Ethelbert Road) at 8:30am

Elevenses/lunch stop for tea/coffee and a bun if you wish to bring this with you.

The Langton, Rugby Club, Nackington, Whitehill Wood, Pett Bottom, Tapleys Hill, Well Wood, Catt’s Wood Road, Bow Hill then footpath to Stone Street. Yellow road by the side of the former pub then footpath leading to and across Duckpit Road, Waltham Road, Capel Wood, Kenfield Road, Chartham Downs, New House Lane, Orchards, eventually to the top of Nunnery Road where the walk finishes. Approx. 13 miles.

Thursday 12 August 2021 – Stour Valley Walk to Ash

Meet at 8.30am at St Martin’s Church

Take the Stour Valley Walk to Fordwich, Stodmarsh, through the RSPB reserve to Grove Ferry. Continue on SVW to West and East Stourmouth, Westmarsh and Ash.

There is Julies farm shop and cafe at Ash, which has not been tried but might be suitable for coffe/tea or lunch.

The walk is about 13 miles, with regular buses back from Ash.

Thursday – 5 August, 2021 – The Adisham Circle

Meet outside the Hospital by the Medical Centre at 8:30am

Packed lunch/elevenses

Proceed to the Rugby Club then Nackington, Whitehall Wood, Middle Pett Farm, Hint Cottage, Bourne Park Road. We follow the Elham Valley Way through Bishopsbourne, Charlton Park and Kingston where we take the footpath to cross the A2. We walk to Walk Wood, Woodlands Wood, Pitt Wood, Oxenden Wood then into Adisham but taking the yellow road via Woodlands Farm connecting to the footpath for Twelve Acre Shaw, crossing fields and roads till we get to Shepherds’ Close Road. From Patrixbourne we follow the NDW up Hode Lane to Barton and then Canterbury where the walk ends.

13 miles.

Thursday 22 July, 2021 – Wye via Crundale, train back

Meet at 8.30am at the junction of Nunnery Fields/Road

The walk is about 11 miles to Wye, with a train back to Canterbury West.

Trains are hourly. We should be ok for the 13.11 but may have to get the one after that.

Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road, up to New House Lane, path from New House Farm to Chartham Downs Road. Cross to Kenfield Hall, to Capel Farm, through Denge Woods to Sole Street and Crundale Church. Thence past Marriage Farm and down to Wye.

Meet outside St Mary Bredin Church at 8.30am

Proceed through town to Toddler’s Cove, then towards the Cemetery – footpath to Church Wood. Through the Wood to Courtenay Road, then Victory Wood, later crossing Pean Hill taking footpaths leading to the Crab and Winkle route; through the University, working our way back to Canterbury. Approx. 14 miles.

Thursday 8 July, 2021 – The Pet Circle

Meet at junction of Nunnery Road with Nunnery Fields at 8:30am

Elevenses stop for tea/coffee and a bun if you wish to bring this with you.

We make our way to New House Lane by the usual route, eventually crossing Chartham Downs Road to Kenfield Road into Petham CP and Capel Wood. We work our way towards Stone Street, crossing Waltham Road and Duckpit Road, then across to Hogg Lane, Bow Hill (using more yellow roads today to avoid the mud), Catt’s Wood Road and, at Well Wood, taking the footpath towards the yellow road, which is Tapleys Hill, arriving at Pett Bottom. The usual route back from here, via Whitehill Wood, Nackington, the Rugby Club, the Langton and back to Stuppington Lane. Approx: 13 miles.
