Thursday 19 May 2022 – North West Passage to Whitstable

Meet at 8.30am St Mary Bredin Church

The walk is about 11m with a bus back from Whitstable. Option of a visit to Wetherspoons or packed lunch by the sea.

Landsdown Rd to Canterbury East, Toddlers Cove, river walk to Tonford Manor. Tonford Lane to NDW, through Bigbury wood and right down to Poldhurst Farm. Over the A2 bridge into Willows and Church Wood, to Denstroude Farm and Lane through Ellenden Wood and Fox’s Cross. Walk along Seasalter Lane and footpath through Seasalter to the coast, approaching Whitstable by the beach huts and the Neptune.

Triangle bus back to Canterbury.

Proceed to New House Lane toward Kenfield Hall, then Petham, Mounts Wood, Hassell Street, then West to the Wye Downs, Wye.

Thursday 5 May 2022 – Denton

Meet at 8.30, junction of Nunnery Fields and Road.

The walk is about 14 miles, with the bus back from Denton. There is the option of a shorter walk by getting the bus back from Barham (about 11 miles).

Bring a packed lunch, although there is also the option of going into the Jackdaw at Denton for lunch.

Zealand Road, Lime Kiln, top of Stuppington Lane, New House Lane to Downs Road. Kenfield Hall, Swarling Manor, Harmansole Farm, Lower Hardres, Pett Bottom. Along the Pett Bottom valley, and across towards Marley and down to Barham (option of bus back for a shorter route). Derringstone Downs, Lodge Lee Down, Willow Wood to Denton.

There are regular fast buses back to Canterbury.

Meet at Canterbury West Station to catch 8:05 train (direct to Harrietsham)

Train from Canterbury West to Harrietsham 8:05 (arrive Harrietsham 8:44) – cost £6:30 if booked in advance on the South Eastern website (collect ticket from Canterbury West Station or any specified station – you choose when you order the ticket).

Footpaths and yellow roads, starting of on the North Downs Way, through Wichling, Seed, Newnham/Eastling, Ospringe, Faversham.

Approx: 12 miles

We should arrive in Faversham early afternoon, i.e. before 14:00 where we can take the fast bus to Canterbury (X3 or X4 – 24 mins) leaving at :01 and :31 past the hour.

Thursday 21 April 2022 – Selling via Denge Wood

Meet 8.30am at the junction of Nunnery Fields and Nunnery Road.

The walk is 15 miles, with a train back from Selling. Packed lunch recommended, although there is a cafe at Selling. There is the option of a short cut (about 11 miles) by going into Chilham and catching a train or bus from there.

Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road, up to New House Lane. Path to Garlinge Green, Denge and Eddringe woods, Eggarton Manor, Godmersham, Godmersham Park, Dane Street, Shottenden, Perry Wood, Selling station.

There are trains to Canterbury East: at 1331 and 1431

Meet at 8.30am, K&C, South Canterbury Rd entrance. The walk is 15 miles with regular buses from Temple Ewell.

Bring a packed lunch or snack.

Past the rugby ground to Nackington, Whitehill Woods, Middle Pett Farm, Hint Cottage. Elham Valley way to Bishopsbourne, Kingston, Heart’s Delight, Barham. Over the Broome Park golf course to the main entrance. Past Lyddon Circuit, Birches Farm, Stanton Farm to Ewell Minnis. Through the Minnis to Temple Ewell.

There are regular buses back from Temple Ewell. If you want a shorter walk (about 10 miles) there are regular buses from Broome Park or Denton.

On arrival at Ash we take the path to Wingham then, Goodnestone; Aylesham; Nonnington; Barfrestone and then Sibertswold where we catch the train back to Canterbury East:

Meet at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance, at 8.30am.

We will go out past the rugby ground through Nackington, Whitehill Woods, skirt Lower Hardres, Bridge, Patrixbourne, bypass Littlebourne through Lower Garrington Farm, Ickham, Wickhambreaux, Stodmarsh, Fordwich and home along the cycle route to Canterbury.

About 14.5 miles, plenty of Church stopping off points for a snack on the way if you want to bring something.
