Meet by St Mary Bredin Church at 8:00am

Toddler’s cove via Lansdown Road

SVW to near Tonford Manor; at the bridge to Thanington turn right (not left) onto the footpath, walk past Tonford Manor, under the A2 then:

Turn left on footpath into Lower Harbledown, through St Nicholas’s Hospital into Harbledown and left at the Church then over the road bridge and through the meadow to the top – towards Blean water tower and right on the footpath to St Dunstan’s back over the railway bridge and then home via Toddler’s Cove and under the ring road bridge by the river or through Westgate Gardens and Greyfriars.  6 miles.

Thursday, 6 April, 2023 – Peter’s South Alkham Odyssey

Meet at Canterbury Bus Station (Bay D1) to catch the 8:30am, Number 16 Bus to Denton/Folkestone.  Cost £2. Duration 17 mins (to Denton).

The route, shown above is about 10 miles however, quite a lot of up and down – see the contours.  There will be breaks for refreshment so please bring snack/packed lunch/something to drink.  At the conclusion of the walk there will be the opportunity to extend it (Peter will advise of possibilities on the day) otherwise bus (Number 15) back from Penchester Road Bus Station, Dover:

Wednesday Walk 5 April, 2023

We’ll meet at the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.

The Wednesday Walk has reached it’s second anniversary and we’re still finding paths previously not trodden by the midweekers.

The walk this week will probably be in the direction of Barton Down

SSS280 – Tuesday 4 April, 2023 – Reverse The Steve’s Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the Hospital (junction of Ethelbert and South Canterbury Roads)

The Langton Path to the end of the school playing fields, rugby club, over the A2 bridge and proceed to Nackington, Whitehill Wood, Lower Hardes.  Work back from Lower Hardes to New House Lane and then back to South Canterbury Road via A2 bridge crossing in Stuppington Lane.

Thursday, 30 March, 2023 – The Waitrose Circle

Meet at 8:30 opposite St. Mary Bredin Church (by the Launderette).

There will be a few stops so please bring something to eat and drink (including lunch).

A 15 mile route that encompasses some different paths to those known by the Striders whilst remaining circular and ending up at a popular local landmark.    Anyone who desires a shorter walk could leave the circle as it loops back to Canterbury by taking a more direct route to the centre.  The walk heads into Denstead Woods from Chartham Hatch and takes permissive paths into Bower Wood, then Court Wood and north to Brotherhood Wood. We make our way to Podhurst Farm and then cross into Church Wood, gradually working across to Tyler Hill, Hackington, through town, ending up outside Waitrose.

Wednesday Walk 29 March, 2023

The walk this week will be in the Blean area. We’ll meet at 8:30am at the main entrance

to the Westgate Gardens.
The forecast for Wednesday is for light cloud with a low chance of rain.
There’s  not a pic from last week as the walk was called off. Attached is an earlier photo taken
near Broad Oak.  This area will be dramatically changed if the proposals for the reservoir go ahead.

SSS279 – Tuesday 28 March, 2023 – Reverse The Valley Lark Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am at the top of Nunnery Road (at the Junction with Nunnery Fields)

Nunnery Road, Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road and across the fields coming out at Hollow Lane, then onto New House Lane taking the footpath to Cockering Road.  We take the footpath though Larkey Valley Wood leaving for footpaths crossing New House Lane and Iffin Lane, then footpath through to Merton Farm, cross A2 bridge – Rugby Club, Langton Path, K & C Hospital where the walk ends. 6 miles.

Thursday 23 March 2023 – Densole via Broom Park

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance.

The walk is about 14 miles, so please bring a packed lunch. There is a cafe at Broome Park golf course, where we will break.

From the hospital to the rugby field, Nackington, Whitehill Woods, Middle Pett farm. Cross Elham valley railway into the Bourne House valley, then take EVW through Bishopsbourne, Kingston, Heart’s Delight, Derringstone and Barham. Path through golf course to Broome Park. Possibility of taking the bus back at that point for a shorter walk (about 9/10 miles).

Cross the main road and take a combination of footpaths and minor roads through Shelvin and Wooton. Path past Hill House farm to St John’s Commandery (13th century Knight’s Hospitalers base), Swingfield Street, Foxholt cottage to A260 bus stop near Densole. Regular buses back to Canterbury.

Wednesday Walk 22 March, 2023

The Wednesday Walkers will be meeting near the main entrance of the Westgate Gardens for an 8:30am start, please join us if possible.

The walk will be mainly in the Blean direction.
 
The forecast is for light rain but of course that may change. If the weather does not look good please
check your e-mails at 6:30am to see if the walk has been cancelled.

SSS 278 – Tuesday 21 March, 2023 – Reverse The Woolton Farm Walk

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:00 am

Spring Lane, the footpath past Little Barton House by the railway line then along Bekesbourne Lane taking the second footpath on the left through Woolton Farm, past Farthings Wood and shortly afterwards taking a left into Court Wood towards Littlebourne Road, at the end of this footpath we take the footpath to the left, towards Firdown Wood but turn right before Palmstead Wood proceeding towards the Hoath Farm (footpath).  Bekesbourne Lane to Worcester Lane then through the orchards back to Spring Lane (where the walk concludes) via Little Barton House. 6 miles
