Meet Canterbury East Station to catch 08:40 train to arrive at Sibertswold (aka Shepherdswell) at 8:58 (£6.90).

Please bring a packed lunch for this walk.

Route: Elvington, Tilmanstone, Betteshanger, Eastry, Hammil, finishing at Ash where we catch the 43 bus back to Canterbury.

Wednesday Walk – 28 August, 2024

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for the weekly two hour walk followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.

The weather forecast for the walk is Sunny with a gentle breeze.

The route this week will probably follow the river down stream as far as ASDA then crossing the Sturry Road and into the community park. We’ll return to the city via the cycle track.

SSS 352 – Tuesday 27 August, 2024 – Reverse Travelling Riverside Blues Walk

Meet outside St. Martin’s Church at 8:00am 

We take the SVW path, later joining the cycle path to Fordwich but later cutting through to Dickens Avenue, then South Street, crossing the Sturry Road and heading for ASDA and then the path by the Stour, which we follow to the Miller’s Arms passing Sainsbury’s en route.  At this point we make our way to the footpath which parallels North Lane by the side of the other Stour and continue onto Westgate Gardens, then the SVW to the Riverside Retail Park where we weave our way to Wincheap School, crossing the A28 in the process.  The walk finishes at the junction of Norman Road with Nunnery Road and Oxford Road.

Thursday 22 August 2024 – Woods walk

Meet at the Launderette opposite St Mary Bredin Church

Through Toddler’s Cove, NDW, Poldhurt and Denstead Farm, Denstead wood, Forresters Lodge farm, over the A2 bridge to Dunkirk, Bosenden farm, North Bishopden wood, Blean woods, Rough Common, back into Canterbury on footpath from the water tower.

About 13 miles, mainly in woodland, so bring a packed lunch

Wednesday Walk – 21 August, 2024

All Striders welcome on the Wednesday Walk that this week will, as usual, start at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens. Hope to see you there for an 8:30am start.

The weather forecast for the duration of the walk is for sunny intervals and a moderate breeze.
Although our midweek walks are sometimes changed on the day the intention this week is to head in the direction of Rough Commonthen following paths to the A 290 at the point the road crosses the Sarre Penn. We will take a path that passes the earthworks and deliver us on to the cycle track near St Cosmus and St Damian Church. From the church a decision will be made on the route back to thecity centre.

Thursday – 15 August, 2024 – Canterbury to Eastry

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water .

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road @ 8:30 am

Minor roads and footpaths: NDW to Patrixbourne, then through Adisham to Love Lane branching off to Goodnestone then yellow roads and footpaths to Eastry to catch the No: 81 bus to Canterbury (13;28; 14:28) takes just over an hour via Sandwich and Wingham.

Last week’s Woods & Coast Walk to Herne Bay:

Wednesday Walk – 14 August, 2024

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens for a walk taking approximately two hours followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.

The walk will return to Barton Down to try and rediscover the lost path.

The pic taken last week is of three familiar faces to be seen regularly on Striders midweek rambles.

SSS 350 – Tuesday 13 August, 2024 – Reverse The Golf Walk

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:00 am

Spring Lane and past Little Barton Farmhouse.  We take the Public Footpath, which runs parallel to the railway line, along to Bekesbourne Road, further along we take the footpath, on the left, which runs alongside Palmstead Wood then Firdown Wood.  We cross A257 and walk along Swanton Lane till we get to the site of the old dump, then take the footpath through to Moat Lane/Stodmarsh Road junction.  We cross the road and take the footpath to Scotland Hill, across the Golf Course and then the footpath that runs behind the old barracks, later cutting down to the SVW, which leads us to St. Martin’s Church where the walk ends. 6 miles.

Thursday 8 August 2024 – Woods and coast to Herne Bay

Meet at 8.30am, launderette opposite St Mary Bredin Church.

This route is about 13 miles. After Toddlers Cove it goes through Lower Harbledown up to the University and the takes the path parallel to the cycle route to Whitstable and then the coast to Herne Bay. Packed lunch or Wallflower Cafe, and bus back home.

A shorter walk is possible by taking the bus back from Whitstable or Tankerton.
