Thursday – 19 January, 2023 @ 8:30 Canterbury to Elham (Huw’s Way)

**Packed Lunch** or there is the Cosy or the King’s Arms in the square, which was quite good last time we visited.

This one starts at 8:30am outside 25 St Augustine’s Road and takes the Francigena to Patrixbourne. Then to Bridge via Bifrons Park.
Then there is a path crossing the Nailbourne to Crows Camp Hill just above Bishopsbourne.
We take a footpath from here and then a sharp left into Charlton Wood and then on to Heart’s delight via Marley.
We now follow the Elham Valley Way into Covert Wood, but on leaving the wood we go on the road to Bladbean Farm, and then on road and paths to Upper park gate Farm. From there we descend by road and path into Elham and, maybe, for Tea/Coffee/Beer before taking the bus back to Canterbury. About 12 miles.

Wednesday Walk 18 January, 2023

This is the weekly reminder. The the walk on Wednesday will start at 8:30am meeting at

the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens.
 
The weather forecast for the walk is for sunny intervals and a gentle breeze. It will be cold with temperatures
between -1 and 3 degrees. Wrap up warm.

SSS269 – Tuesday, 17 January, 2023 – The Steve’s Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the Hospital (junction of Ethelbert and South Canterbury Roads)

The Langton Path to the end of the school playing fields, rugby club, over the A2 bridge and proceed to Nackington, Whitehill Wood, Lower Hardes.  Work back from Lower Hardes to New House Lane and then back to South Canterbury Road via A2 bridge crossing in Stuppington Lane.

Thursday 12 January 2023 – Herne Bay (largely mud free route)

Meet 8.30am, St Mary Bredin Church

The route is about 13 miles, with a bus back from Herne Bay. Optional lunch at the Wallflower Cafe. Short cut by taking the bus back from Whitstable or Tankerton. The route is largely mud free because it follows the cycle route towards Whitstable and then the promenade to Herne Bay.

Toddlers Cove, London Road Roundabout, Lower Harbledown, bridge to Neal’s Place, Water Tower, cycle route to Whitstable. Branch off to Tankerton, promenade through Seasalter, Hampton Pier to Herne Bay.

Wednesday Walk 11 January, 2023

The walk will start from the main entrance of the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.

Heavy rain is forecast for Tuesday but the weather will be much improved in time for the
midweek walk.
Avoiding mud and water will be a priority.

SSS268 – Tuesday, 10 January, 2023 – The Valley Lark Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the hospital – junction of South Canterbury Road with Ethelbert Road

The Langton Path to the end of the school playing fields, rugby club, over the A2 bridge and down to Merton Farm.  Footpath through Merton Farm, later Iffin Lane and connecting to footpath to New House Lane and then down into Larkey Valley Wood.  Through the wood, coming out on Cockering Road, which we walk along until we get to the footpath for New House Lane.  footpath by side of Hollow Lane then connecting footpaths behind Wincheap to Lime Kiln Road and Zealand Road.  The walk finishes at the top of Nunnery Road.

6 miles.

Thursday, 5 January, 2023 Canterbury Western Circle

8:30 Meet outside St Mary Bredin Church, Nunnery Fields

Road and footpath to Rough Common

Church Wood but, this time, through to Bishopsden and Bossenden woods, eventually to Dunkirk

Walk over the A2 bridge at Dunkirk and along the edge of Poundfall Wood down to Forester’s Lodge Farm and then take the footpath into South Bishops Den wood. Various footpaths through to Podhurst Farm, cut down to Bigbury, back over the A2 bridge and into Harbledown then Canterbury.

Packed lunch/drink for brief stop during the walk.

About 14 miles

Wednesday Walk 4 January, 2023

We’ll gather for an 8:30am start at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens.

 
Walks will be called off in extreme weather conditions or if heavy continuous rain is forecast.
If in doubt on the day check your e-mails at 7:30am. If there is not anything in your in-box then the walk
will go ahead.

SSS267 – Tuesday, 3 January, 2023 – The Woolton Farm Walk

The Woolton Farm Walk

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:00 am

Proceed upto Little Barton House, then across the orchards later crossing Bekesbourne Lane to the rear of Hoath Farm onto a footpath, through the young orchard, down a dip, up to tree line and bear right along edge of wood. At path T junction, next to gate into field, turn left and follow path up to Littlebourne road. Just before Littlebourne Road turn right and follow path into wood then onto rutted track then asphalt. Turn right onto asphalt farm track and follow to Woolton Farm. Through farm and follow track uphill to re-join Bekesbourne Lane. Turn right onto BL and after a third of a mile, past the old people’s home, left onto track to railway bridge.  Just before bridge turn right onto footpath down into wood, through wood and out onto edge of field. Bear right and follow track back to Little Barton House then down Spring Lane where the walk finishes.  6 miles.

Thursday 29 December 2022 – NDW, Shalmsford St and the river

Meet 8.30am at the junction of Nunnery Fields and Road.

The route is about 12 miles returning before 1pm.

Follow the North Downs Way out of Canterbury through Bigbury Woods, No Man’s Orchard, Chartham Hatch. Before Old Wives Lees turn down towards Shalmsford St and back along the river path.
