SSS382 – Tuesday, 25 March, 2025 – Reverse The Steve’s Walk

Meet at the top of Norman Road 8:00

Norman Road into Oxford Road, footpaths to Wincheap School then onward to A28/A2 Juction and Retail Park, taking pedestrian crossings until the outskirts of Thannington, turn left after A2 exit junction onto footpath leading to Cockering Road.  We proceed along Cockering Road until we get to the footpath, on the left hand side, which leads to St. Augustine’s, Chartham where we turn left across the recreation ground then into the woods coming out by the footpath that parallels New House Lane.  We turn left and return towards Canterbury, taking Hollow Lane down to the Wincheap Orchards and then across to Lime Kiln Road/Zealand Road/Nunnery Road, where the walk ends.

Thursday 20 March 2025 – Lydden

Meet at 8.30am, K&C, South Canterbury Rd entrance. The walk is 12 miles with regular buses from Lydden.

We will break at Broome Park for a mid morning snack. There is a cafe available.

Past the rugby ground to Nackington, Whitehill Woods, Middle Pett Farm, Hint Cottage. Elham Valley way to Bishopsbourne, Kingston, Heart’s Delight, Barham. Over the Broome Park golf course to the main entrance. past Lyddon Circuit, Birches Farm, Wickham Bushes to Lydden.

There are regular buses back from Lydden. If you want a shorter walk (about 10 miles) there are regular buses from Broome Park or Denton.

Wednesday Walk – 19 March, 2025

Gather as usual at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee at a venue decided on the day.

 
The weather forecast for the walk is bright sunshine and a light wind.
This week we’ll follow the North Downs Way to near Harbledown and then head in the direction of the A2505 crossing into Stock Wood following various paths towards the A290 and the university campus. Big decisions to be made at this point, Gulbenkian cafe or onwards for coffee in the city centre?
The pic from last weeks adventure is of the lads on Barton Down. Yes the shopping trolley is still there but now minus two of its wheels.

SSS381 – Tuesday 18 March, 2025 – Reverse The Valley Lark Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am at the top of Nunnery Road (at the Junction with Nunnery Fields)

Nunnery Road, Zealand Road, Lime Kiln Road and across the fields coming out at Hollow Lane, then onto New House Lane taking the footpath to Cockering Road.  We take the footpath though Larkey Valley Wood leaving for footpaths crossing New House Lane and Iffin Lane, then footpath through to Merton Farm, cross A2 bridge – Rugby Club, Langton Path, K & C Hospital where the walk ends. 6 miles.

Thursday, 13 March, 2025 – The Marley Oval (in reverse)

Packed lunch

Meet at the junction of Stuppington Lane with South Canterbury Road 8:30am

Footpath to the Rugby Club then onward to Nackington, Whitehill Wood and Pett Bottom then to the side of Gorsley Wood towards Westward Farm. We take the footpath to Marley Lane and follow this down to Kingston, then footpath to Bishopsbourne, onwards to Bridge, Patrixbourne and back to Canterbury via the Barton Estate. 12 miles.

Wednesday Walk – 12 March, 2025

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.

 
The weather forecast for the duration of the walk is for sunny intervals and light winds.
This weeks outing is a circular ramble around Barton Down.
Taken at the Gulbenkian cafe last week is a pic of the lads relaxing after trying to avoid the mud along the banks of the Sarre Penn.

SSS 380 – Tuesday 11 March, 2024 – Reverse The Woolton Farm Walk

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:00 am

Spring Lane, the footpath past Little Barton House by the railway line then along Bekesbourne Lane taking the second footpath on the left through Woolton Farm, past Farthings Wood and shortly afterwards taking a left into Court Wood towards Littlebourne Road, at the end of this footpath we take the footpath to the left, towards Firdown Wood but turn right before Palmstead Wood proceeding towards the Hoath Farm (footpath), crossing  Bekesbourne Lane then through the former orchards back to Spring Lane (where the walk concludes) via Little Barton House. 6 miles

Thursday 6 March – Herne via Stodmarsh

Meet 8.30am at St Martins Church

The walk is about 12 miles, with regular buses back from Herne. There is the option of a shorter walk (about 9 miles) by getting the bus back from Upstreet. Bring a packed lunch.

We take the footpath through Old Park and join with the cycle route to Fordwich. Then the Stour Valley Way from Fordwich to Stodmarsh, and the path through the Stodmarsh bird reserve to Grove Ferry. Footpath to Upstreet, then cross the main road and take the footpath to Chitty. From Chitty we take small roads through Chislet and Millbank to Herne.

Wednesday Walk – 5 March, 2025

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.

Weather forecast is sunny and gentle breeze with temperatures up to nine degrees, perfect walking weather.

 The walk originally planned for last week will take us to Rough Common, New Road, Luckett Farm and cross the A290 next to the public house, The Hare at Blean. We’ll follow the Sarre Penn down stream until we reach Brotherhood Wood returning to the city centre via the university campus.

The pic taken last week is of The Magnificent Seven (one taking the photo) next to the river near where the Beavers roam.

A rare visit from Martin, we were pleased he could join us.
