Meet at the Launderette opposite St Mary Bredin Church

Through Toddler’s Cove, NDW, Poldhurt and Denstead Farm, Denstead wood, Forresters Lodge farm, over the A2 bridge to Dunkirk, Bosenden farm, North Bishopden wood, Blean woods, Rough Common, back into Canterbury on footpath from the water tower.

About 13 miles, mainly in woodland, so bring a packed lunch

Wednesday Walk – 23 July, 2025

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.

The walk will follow the North Downs Way towards Bigbury and past Poldhurst Farm. From Upper Harbledown we’ll follow paths

through Homestall Wood and Stock Wood to Rough Common. The route will take the path past the cemetery returning to St Dunstans and the city centre.

The weather forecast includes thundery showers so some modification to the route may need to be decided on the day.

The walk last week was extended through Larkey Valley Wood returning towards the city via  New House Lane and. Stuppington Lane.

SSS399 – Tuesday 22 July,2025 – Reverse The Don’s Walk

Meet @ 8 am outside 25 St Augustine’s Road

Proceed to Spring Lane then Little Barton House, then through the Orchard Route leading to Bekesbourne Lane crossing onto the footpath behind Hoath Farm.  Onwards to Firdown Wood and then on to the footpath towards Swanton Lane (crossing A257).  Then left onto the footpath over the old dump, when you get to the open field proceed north-west to the far right-hand corner to connect with the footpath through to Stodmarsh Road.  Cross the Christchurch sports field and take the footpath through to Fordwich and then the ‘wall of death’ through to Moat Lane and then along the road for the footpath that leads through the golf course, later joining the SVW and then back towards St Martin’s Church where the walk finishes.

Thursday, 17 July, 2025 – Ash via Goodnestone

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance.

The walk is around 13 miles. Bring a packed lunch, although there is also a cafe and pub at Ash if preferred. Regular buses back to Canterbury.

Shorter versions are possible by walking back from Patrixbourne on the NDW or by taking the yellow road from Adisham to Bramling and getting the bus there.

Through the hospital, up to the rugby ground, Nackington, Whitehill woods, Middle Pett Farm, Bridge. Bifrons Park, Adisham, Goodnestone, Claypits, Staple, Ash.

Wednesday Walk – 16 July, 2025

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.

The weather forecast is for sunny intervals and a moderate breeze.

This weeks walk will head in the direction of Chartham leaving the river path at Horton and heading towards the edge of Larkey Wood.

The return to the city centre will be via Thannington.

SS398 – Tuesday, 15 July, 2025 – Reverse Around the Woods Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the hospital – junction of South Canterbury Road with Ethelbert Road

Walk to Rugby Club then, via Nackington to Bridge Road and into Whitehill Wood: where four paths cross, carry straight on and, at the next junction, take the path furthest to the right and continue straight ahead.  At the footpath bifurcation, bear left, joining School Lane, head down the hill towards Pett Bottom, at the bottom of the hill, by the Duck, turn left, onto Pett Bottom Road.  Proceed along the road to Little Eaton Farm joining the footpath on the left, back to Whitehill Woods. We keep to the righthand footpath until we begin to exit the woods, where we take the left hand footpath and, at the next footpath junction, turn right, through the orchard, across Bridge Road, then along the footpath by the side of the poly tunnels until we reach the fire break where we descend the hill and cross to the footpath, returning us to the Nackington footpath and back the way we came.

About 7 miles.

Thursday – 10 July, 2025 – Selsted via Covert Wood

Meet at 8.30 K&C hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance

The walk is about 12 miles, with regular buses back from Selsted. We’ll probably be back in Canterbury 1-2pm, so bring a picnic lunch if required.

Past the rugby ground, cross Nackington road, past Nackington, through Whitehill Woods, Little Eaton Farm. Footpath behind Pett Bottom to Westwood Farm, Covert Wood, Bladbean Farm, Wingmore, North Elham, Rakeshole Farm, Selsted.
