Wednesday Walk – 12 February, 2025

An 8:30am start of walk from the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens for the two hours followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.

 Weather forecast for Wednesday is for drizzle and light winds.

The direction of the walk will be decided on the day and will take account of ground conditions as we find them.

The pic from last week is of the Hambrook Stream at the point where it is crossed by the North Downs Way. Not of course to be confused with the mighty Sarre Penn.

SSS376 – Tuesday, 11 February, 2025 – Reverse Toddler’s Coves Walk

Meet at the top of Nunnery Road where it meets Nunnery Fields at 8:00am 

Nunnery Road, Zealand Road, then Lime Kiln Road to footpath, which connects to path behind Wincheap and then to Hollow Lane.  Walk along footpath by side of Hollow Lane (under A2 bridge) and along New House Lane, later take footpath across to Strangers Lane.  Walk down to A28 and cross for footpath, which leads to bridge over the Stour onto the SVW by the turning to Tonford Manor but turn right and walk to Toddler’s Cove, then across the footbridge and under the ring road towards Lansdown Road where the walk finishes. About 6 miles.

Thursday 6 February 2025 – Woods and coast to Herne Bay

Meet at 8.30am, launderette opposite St Mary Bredin Church.

This route is about 13 miles. After Toddlers Cove it goes through Lower Harbledown up to the University and the takes the path parallel to the cycle route to Whitstable and then the coast to Herne Bay. Packed lunch or Wallflower Cafe, and bus back home.

A shorter walk is possible by taking the bus back from Whitstable or Tankerton.

Wednesday Walk – 5 February, 2025

Be at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for this weeks Wednesday Wander followed by a visit to a city centre cafe.

The walk will take us out along the NDW to Harbledown branching off towards the Vernon Holme School and crossing the road and into Stock Wood. We may return to the city via Rough Common or go onwards returning via the university campus depending on the time.

The weather forecast is looking good with sunny intervals and light winds. Temperatures between four and six degrees.

SSS375 – Tuesday, 4 February, 2025 – Reverse The Hospital Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road.

From St. Augustine’s Road we head towards Barton Industrial Estate then NDW towards Hode Lane turning right on the footpath by the woods to join Hode Lane (West).  We join the old Roman Road A 2050 (New Dover Road) and cross carefully by the Bus Stop on the opposite side of the road.

We then take the bridge over the A2 towards Renville but turn right towards Nackington, when we come to the firebreak we go down the hill and follow the footpath through the orchard towards Nackington.  When we meet Nackington Road we cross the A2 bridge and then take a left in the direction of the Rugby Club, School and hospital, where the walk concludes. 6 miles.

Thursday 30 January, 2025 Canterbury – Faversham via Herne Hill

Meet @ 8:30am outside the launderette (opposite St. Mary Bredin Church).

Road and footpath to Rough Common then Church Wood through to Courtney Road and through the woods till we get to the Herne Hill footpath, crossing the Thanet Way between Kemsdale Wood and Fostall.

Footpaths to Sandbanks Road, Nagden Cottages then SSW into Faversham.

Take bus back or lunch – to be decided

Wednesday Walk – 29 January, 2025

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for this week’s two hour midweek walk followed by coffee, hot chocolate or tea to be enjoyed at a city centre cafe.

The weather forecast for Wednesday is for light rain showers and a moderate breeze.

The direction of the walk this week will be decided on the day taking ground conditions into account.

SSS374 – Tuesday, 28 January, 2025 – Reverse The Get Thee to a Nunnery Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the hospital – junction of South Canterbury Road with Ethelbert Road

Walk to Rugby Club then, via Nackington to Bridge Road and into Whitehill Wood.  Onward to Lower Hardes Church then take the footpath to Bridge Road junction at Stone Street; cross onto footpath, which leads to Iffin Lane, and then the connecting footpath to New House Lane, then Hollow Lane crossing onto footpath through orchards and later connecting to Lime Kiln Road and Nunnery Road where the walk ends.

Thursday, 23 January, 2025 – Lyminge to Canterbury

Meet at Canterbury Bus Station to catch the 8:35 bus (17 from Bay D1) to Lyminge (bus arrives in Lyminge at 9:19).  Cost £3.

From Lyminge we walk back to Canterbury via Stelling Minnis and Lynsore Bottom on a mixture of yellow roads and footpaths.  Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink en route.

Wednesday Walk – 22 January, 2025

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for this weeks two hour walk followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.

The walk will head off in the Chartham direction as far as Howfield Farm then will circle back to the city.

So far the forecast is for less than a 50 percent chance of it raining.
