Meet at Canterbury Bus Station to catch No 43 (Sandwich) Bus at 8:46 Bay D3 – Cost £2:00 (journey time 26 minutes).

On arrival at Ash we take the path, through the Church, to Hammil and onto Eastry; from Eastry we walk to Bettshanger Colliery, then Northbourne, Tilmanstone, Elvington ending up in Sibertswold for the train back to Canterbury. 13 miles.

Trains from Sibertswold to Canterbury East:
14:28; 15:26; 15:55; 16:28; 16:58 Cost £4:35 with Railcard (or if we travel as 4 or more together).

Wednesday Walk 7 June, 2023

The midweek walkers will meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am

A walk from the village of Herne Hill is a possibility for the 14th June. As it’s an away day for

the Wednesday Walkers transport needs to be arranged. Could you please let me know as soon as possible

The walk will follow in the direction of Dargate, Red Road, Holly Hill, Mount Ephraim Wood and returning to

the village for coffee at the Red Lion.

SSS289 – Tuesday, 6 June, 2023 – The Woolton Farm Walk

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:00 am

Proceed upto Little Barton House, then across the orchards later crossing Bekesbourne Lane to the rear of Hoath Farm onto a footpath, through the young orchard, down a dip, up to tree line and bear right along edge of wood. At path T junction, next to gate into field, turn left and follow path up to Littlebourne road. Just before Littlebourne Road turn right and follow path into wood then onto rutted track then asphalt. Turn right onto asphalt farm track and follow to Woolton Farm. Through farm and follow track uphill to re-join Bekesbourne Lane. Turn right onto BL and after a third of a mile, past the old people’s home, left onto track to railway bridge.  Just before bridge turn right onto footpath down into wood, through wood and out onto edge of field. Bear right and follow track back to Little Barton House then down Spring Lane where the walk finishes.  6 miles.

Thursday, 1 June, 2023 The Fright Wood Circle

Meet outside the Canterbury Launderette, Nunnery Fields – opposite St Mary Bredin Church at 8:30

London Road roundabout/footpath to Bigberry/Chartham Hatch/Primrose Hill/Denstead Wood/cut through the wood (no path) to the Bower Wood/Nickle Wood path then the path through Fright Wood, working down to the path which crosses Ashford Road and proceeds through a gate in the wall, which leads to the bridge over the Weir. Then onto Chartham, through the Church and taking the path near the Artichoke pub, which eventually leads to Strangers Lane, then New House Lane, turning right at the end into Hollow Lane then sharp left, at the left hand junction with Merton Lane, onto the footpath through the orchard leading to Stuppington Lane.  The walk finishes at the junction with South Canterbury Road.

Bring lunch/elevenses/snack.  About 11 miles.

Wednesday Walk 31 May, 2023

Next Wednesday marks the 185 anniversary of the Battle in Bossenden Wood.

A circular walk starting from the church at Herne Hill where most of the victims of the battle are buried is an option.
The start of the walk is just a ten minute drive. For this week only could you please let me know if you intend to
join the walk so I can try and organise car travel arrangements. Please let me know as soon as possible on barrywillcox@icloud.com
I’ll send further details of the walk on Monday once I know the level of interest.
Sean and I have been campaigning for a permanent memorial in the church and cathedral for sometime, unfortunately not achieved so far.

Thursday 25 May 2023 – Kingston, Goodnestone, Wingham

Meet at 8.30am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Rd entrance

The walk is about 13 miles with half hourly buses back from Wingham. We will stop for a packed lunch at Goodnestone Church. There is also a pub in the village and a cafe at Goodnestone House if preferred.


Through the hospital, past the rugby ground and over Nackington Road. Then through the orchard around Nackingon and across the Bridge road into Whitehill woods. Over the Pett Bottom road to Middle Pett Farm and then the footpath into the Bourne Park valley. Follow the Elham Valley Way through Bishopsbourne to Kingston, then up Black Robin Lane to take the footbridge over the A2 and through Ileden wood to Adisham. Through Adisham and under the railway to Love Lane, then over the Aylesham road to Goodnestone, where we will stop for lunch. Short walk after lunch to Wingham for the bus back.

The weather forecast for Wednesday morning is for bright sun with light winds, another perfect
day for a walk.
As usual where we walk and take coffee will be decided on the day.
Last weeks pic taken at Neal’s Place shows how cool it is to stroll and hang out midweek.

SSS287 – Tuesday, 23 May, 2023 – The Golf Walk

Meet outside St. Martin’s Church at 8:00 am

St. Martin’s Church/SVW/then up the hill to footpath behind the barracks/Across the golf club – avoiding balls and golfers/Scotland Hills and footpath to Moat Lane/Stodmarsh Road junction/Across Moat Rough towards Littlebourne/Turn right into Swanton Lane/Across the A257 to footpath that goes by Firdown Wood/Palmstead Wood then carefully along the Bekesbourne Road/Footpath on left and then take connecting footpath on right.  We end up at Little Barton Farmhouse,then Spring Lane and down the hill.  6 miles

The Epic Charing Walk – Thursday, 18 May, 2023 @ 8:00

Packed lunch/snack and plenty to drink recommended

Meet at the top of Nunnery Road, at the junction with Nunnery Fields @ 8:00 – note earlier than usual time for a Thursday walk.

Footpaths to Chartham. Footpaths, some yellow road, to Chilham. NDW to Boughton Aluph then onto Eastwell Park, keep following NDW towards Charing but we cut down to the other side of the A20 at Burnt House Farm and then along to Charing Station for the train back to Canterbury.

At Charing Station we catch the 15:54 train back to Canterbury (journey time shown as 39 mins, including change at Ashford). On the Southeastern website the advance single is shown as £3.60. The timing allows for several refuelling stops en route to Charing. About 18 miles.
