Thursday, 20 May, 2021 – Canterbury Northern Circle

Lunch stop – packed lunch and something to drink advised

Meet outside St Augustine’s Abbey, Longport at 8:30 am

Walk over to North Holmes Road, St. Radigunds, West Station Roundabout, through the tunnel and onto St Stephen’s Green then across to Hales Place and onto the footpath through Hackington towards Alcroft Grange then South to North through West Blean Nature Reserve then working across Sheepfold, the Golf Course, later crossing Radfall Road at Chestfield. We then head South through Clowes Wood towards Amery Court, later we cross into Church Wood and make our way to Rough Common, then the footpath back to St Dunstan’s and into the City.
Approx. 15 miles.

**Elevenses break - you may wish to bring coffee/tea/snack**

Meet at the corner of Nunnery Fields with Old Dover Road – opposite St Mary Bredin Church at 8:30

London Road roundabout/footpath to Bigberry/Chartham Hatch/Primrose Hill/Denstead Wood/cut through the wood (no path) to the Bower Wood/Nickle Wood path then the path through Fright Wood, working down to the path which crosses Ashford Road and proceeds through a gate in the wall, which leads to the bridge over the Weir. Then onto Chartham, through the Church and taking the path near the Artichoke pub, which eventually leads to Strangers Lane, then New House Lane, footpath above Hollow Lane, through Wincheap Farm, Zealand Road where the walk concludes.

Thursday, 29 April, 2021 – The Forickwinbram Circle

Meet outside St. Martin’s Church @ 8:30am

Snack break at Ickham (time for a cuppa)

SVW to Fordwich, then Littlebourne, Ickham, Wingham. Out of Wingham we take the footpath to Snake’s Hill and then down to Bossington Farm from where we follow footpaths to Bramling Downs. We take Bramling Road and eventually cut across to Shepherds’ Close Road, then Patrixbourne, then back to Canterbury via the Barton Estate. 14 miles or so.

Thursday, 15 April, 2021, Canterbury Western Circle (Anti Clockwise)

8:30 Meet outside St Mary Bredin Church, Nunnery Fields

Road and footpath to Rough Common (‘Our Friends from the North’ may wish to join somewhere on this path behind Whitstable Road)

Church Wood but, this time, through to Bishopsden and Bossenden woods, eventually to Dunkirk

Walk over the A2 bridge at Dunkirk and along the edge of Poundfall Wood down to Forester’s Lodge Farm and then take the footpath into South Bishops Den wood. Various footpaths through to Podhurst Farm, cut down to Bigbury, back over the A2 bridge and into Harbledown then Canterbury.

Packed lunch en route.

Thursday 17 December, 2020 The Pet Circle

Meet at junction of Nunnery Road with Nunnery Fields at 8:30am

We make our way to New House Lane by the usual route, eventually crossing Chartham Downs Road to Kenfield Road into Petham CP and Capel Wood. We work our way towards Stone Street, crossing Waltham Road and Duckpit Road, then across to Hogg Lane, Bow Hill (using more yellow roads today to avoid the mud), Catt’s Wood Road and, at Well Wood, taking the footpath towards the yellow road, which is Tapleys Hill, arriving at Pett Bottom. The usual route back from here, via Whitehill Wood, Nackington, the Rugby Club, the Langton and back to Stuppington Lane. Approx: 13 miles.

Thursday 3 December, 2020 The Wickhambreaux Circle

Meet outside St. Martin’s Church @ 8:30am

PLEASE BRING A PACKED LUNCH

Canterbury to Fordwich to Stodmarsh to Grove Ferry (through the Nature Reserve) then on to the Wickhambreaux Valley and slowly down to Wichambreaux. Lunch somewhere near Wickhambreaux, thence a short trek to Littlebourne and through the woods towards Swanton Lane but cutting down, crossing the A257, towards Court Wood, Jacob’s Close, Firdown Wood, The Hoath Farm and then taking the footpath towards Little Barton, Spring Lane and back into Canterbury. For a shorter walk one could drop off at Littlebourne and catch the bus back to Canterbury.

Please bring a packed lunch (to be eaten at a convenient stopping place en route)

Meet outside St Mary Bredin Church at 8.30am

Walk to be led by Barry.

Proceed through town to Toddler’s Cove, then towards the Cemetery – footpath to Church Wood. Through the Wood to Courtenay Road, then Victory Wood, later crossing Pean Hill taking footpaths leading to the Crab and Winkle route; through the University, working our way back to Canterbury.  Approx. 14 miles.

Meet outside 25 St Augustine’s Road at 8:30

Proceed in direction of Patrixbourne, then footpaths to Adisham Church, Love Lane, Church Wood, unfortunately no Gibson’s but we could have lunch somewhere around Wingham.

If anyone wishes for a shorter walk, halfway is Wingham, where there are regular buses back to Canterbury.

Wingham Church, footpaths to Wicambreaux then Wickham Court Lane and footpath to Swanton Lane, Firdown Wood, Palmstead Wood, Bekesbourne Road, Haystack Wood, Spring Lane, Canterbury.
