Lunch stop – packed lunch and something to drink advised

Meet outside St Augustine’s Abbey, Longport at 8:30 am

Walk over to North Holmes Road, St. Radigunds, West Station Roundabout, through the tunnel and onto St Stephen’s Green then across to Hales Place and onto the footpath through Hackington towards Alcroft Grange then South to North through West Blean Nature Reserve then working across Sheepfold, the Golf Course, later crossing Radfall Road at Chestfield. We then head South through Clowes Wood towards Amery Court, later we cross into Church Wood and make our way to Rough Common, then the footpath back to St Dunstan’s and into the City.
Approx. 15 miles.

Thursday – 24 February, 2022 – The Adisham Circle

Meet outside the Hospital by the Medical Centre at 8:30am

Packed lunch/elevenses

Proceed to the Rugby Club then Nackington, Whitehall Wood, Middle Pett Farm, Hint Cottage, Bourne Park Road. We follow the Elham Valley Way through Bishopsbourne, Charlton Park and Kingston where we take the footpath to cross the A2. We walk to Walk Wood, Woodlands Wood, Pitt Wood, Oxenden Wood then into Adisham but taking the yellow road via Woodlands Farm connecting to the footpath for Twelve Acre Shaw, crossing fields and roads till we get to Shepherds’ Close Road. From Patrixbourne we follow the NDW up Hode Lane to Barton and then Canterbury where the walk ends.

Thursday 10 February, 2022 The Victory Wood Circle (A Sean & Barry walk)

Please bring a packed lunch (to be eaten at a convenient stopping place en route)

Meet outside St Mary Bredin Church at 8.30am

Proceed through town to Toddler’s Cove, then towards the Cemetery – footpath to Church Wood. Through the Wood to Courtenay Road, then Victory Wood, later crossing Pean Hill taking footpaths leading to the Crab and Winkle route; through the University, working our way back to Canterbury. Approx. 14 miles.

Thursday 27 January, 2022 Dover to Folkestone (+options)

This week a different walk devised by Peter. There are four place in Peter’s car available on a first come first serve basis, alternatively train/bus and meet the car party at Aycliffe car park.

9:30 Meet outside Peter’s house in 31 South Canterbury Road, CT1 3LH (the car party) otherwise train/bus to Dover Priory and walk to Aycliff Car Park for 10:00am rendezvous or if coming by train (9:40 from CBE – return ticket, with railcard £6.40 – arrives Dover Priory at 10:08) the rendezvous could be delayed for for 20 mins as long as advised beforehand.

There is a beach walk or a cliff top walk. The two walks meet up at the Eagle’s Nest (Cliff Top) cafe. The beach walk offers the possibility to return to Dover on the cliff top walk (returning from the Cafe) – this will be about 10 miles. The alternative is to walk on to Canterbury Road, Folkestone and catch the bus for Canterbury (total miles 6 +).

Thursday 6 January, 2022 – Canterbury to Sandwich

Meet outside 25 St Augustine’s Road 8:30

NDW to Patrixbourne/Shepherd’s Close Road/FPs to Adisham/Bossington/Neavy Downs/Gibson’s is a possibility but the breakfasts appear to have ceased and the menu is much reduced (discuss en route).  In any event a packed lunch and something to drink is suggested.  Goodnestone Road/Twitham Hill/Crixhall Court/Buckland Lane/Summerfield Farm/Black Pond Farm/Beacon Hill/Marshborough – Vine Farm/Great Poulder’s Farm/Sandwich.

Thursday 23 December, 2021 The Pet Circle

Meet at junction of Nunnery Road with Nunnery Fields at 8:30am

We make our way to New House Lane by the usual route, eventually crossing Chartham Downs Road to Kenfield Road into Petham CP and Capel Wood. We work our way towards Stone Street, crossing Waltham Road and Duckpit Road, then across to Hogg Lane, Bow Hill (using more yellow roads today to avoid the mud), Catt’s Wood Road and, at Well Wood, taking the footpath towards the yellow road, which is Tapleys Hill, arriving at Pett Bottom. The usual route back from here, via Whitehill Wood, Nackington, the Rugby Club, the Langton and back to Stuppington Lane. Approx: 13 miles.

Canterbury to Wye – Thursday, 9 December, 2021 @ 8:30

Packed lunch or snack recommended but the cafe in Wye is another possibility.

Meet at the top of Nunnery Road, at the junction with Nunnery Fields @ 8:30.

Hollow Lane, New House Lane, Kenfield Road – footpath to Garlinge Green then:
Denge Wood, Erringe Wood. We cross Sole Street, heading for Church Wood (possible elevenses break by Crundale Church). We then follow the footpaths, later descending the downs, to Wye. About 11 miles.

Trains back to Canterbury West:

Travel time 14 minutes. Cost £4.15 with travel card.
