Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee at a city centre cafe.

The walk will follow the river and leave the path near Tonford Manor continuing on through orchards near Bigbury Wood as far as  Howfield Farm from where we’ll then turn back towards the city via Toddlers Cove.

There is a forecast for possible light rain. The pic from last week is of Steve waiting for a bus at the university. Obviously too much coffee and too many jam croissants at the Gulbenkian cafe to feel like walking back to the city centre.

Meet at junction of Nunnery Road with Nunnery Fields at 8:30am

We make our way to New House Lane by the usual route, eventually crossing Chartham Downs Road to Kenfield Road into Petham CP and Capel Wood. We work our way towards Stone Street, crossing Waltham Road and Duckpit Road, then across to Hogg Lane, Bow Hill (using more yellow roads today to avoid the mud), Catt’s Wood Road and, at Well Wood, taking the footpath towards the yellow road, which is Tapleys Hill, arriving at Pett Bottom. The usual route back from here, via Whitehill Wood, Nackington, the Rugby Club, the Langton and back to Stuppington Lane. Approx: 13 miles.

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am. Steve will lead the walk this week and will decide on the day what direction the two hour ramble will take.

The forecast is for possible light rain and a moderate breeze.

The walk last week took us along side the railway lines from Toddlers Cove past Gorse Meadow Farm into Harbledown. The attached pic was taken at a favourite location for Strider photography, John Pedders grave. The walk continued through Neal’s Place and eventually returning to the city on the path that runs behind St Edmunds School and down into St Stephens. Coffee was enjoyed at the Millers Arms.

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for our two hour walk and chat followed by coffee taken in one of the city centre cafes. 

The ramble this week will include Barton Down and a river walk.

The weather forecast for Wednesday is Sunny and a gentle breeze.

Steve and Huw are seen in the pic below, taken last week, walking through the lush greenery of Brett’s land near Thannington.

Meet at 8:00 am by the St. Augustine’s Triangle (start of the Footpath to the north of St. Augustine’s Road, which goes behind the houses with the UCA buildings on the other side).

The walk proceeds along the footpath, up Babbs Hill, by the side of the Barracks Estate leading to Old Park Farm open land.  It continues through the golf course (Scotland Hills), crossing Stodmarsh Road the Polo Farm, across the A257 by Fishpoolhill Wood then across to the path by Palmstead Wood and then Bekesbourne Lane.  We walk along the road to the footpath by the side of Haystack Wood, then down to Hode Farm where we turn onto the NDW through Barton Business Park and onto number 67 St. Augustine’s Road, home of the creator of this fine walk.

Meet outside The Launderette (opposite St. Mary Bredin Church) at 8:30 am

Walk to Toddler’s Cove then up to Orchard Street, along St. Dunstan’s Terrace, crossing London Road, later taking the footpath beside the Cemetery and parallel to Whitstable Road – towards Rough Common but take the turning by Kent College and then cross the Whitstable Road.
We then take the footpath to Walnut Tree Farm and then into Clowes Wood and through to Radfall, moving along to bypass Chestfield Golf Club and crossing Thornton Wood Road at Sheepfold as we move into West Blean Nature Reserve, making for The Radfall path, thence Hackington and Alcoft Grange. With Canterbury Cathedral as our notional ending place we weave our way through Hales Place, St. Stephen’s and then pavement footpath to the Cathedral.

Approx. 12 miles.

We will meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee in a city centre cafe.

This week it will be mainly a river path walk in the Chartham direction with a slight deviation as we return towards the city.

The weather forecast for Wednesday is rain free.
