Last week’s Ash via Goodnestone Walk:
The meeting place and time is as usual, 8:30am at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens.
The weather forecast for the walk is for no rain before 11am and after then a possibility of light showers.
Postponed from last week the walk will take us along the river bank towards Chartham and then will loop
back to the city centre.
The pic from last week was taken at the start of a walk that took us to the university and on to the fields above Hales Place. Wonderful views of the Cathedral and city below.
Meet @ 8:00 am outside the Hospital (junction of Ethelbert and South Canterbury Roads)
The Langton Path to the end of the school playing fields, rugby club, over the A2 bridge and proceed to Nackington, Whitehill Wood, Lower Hardes. Work back from Lower Hardes to New House Lane and then back to South Canterbury Road via A2 bridge crossing in Stuppington Lane.

Meet 8.30am at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance.
The walk is around 13 miles. Bring a packed lunch, although there is also a cafe and pub at Ash if preferred. Regular buses back to Canterbury. A shorter version would be possible by taking the yellow road from Adisham to Bramling and getting the bus there.
Through the hospital, up to the rugby ground, Nackington, Whitehill woods, Middle Pett Farm, Bridge. Bifrons Park, Adisham, Goodnestone, Claypits, Staple, Ash.

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the hospital – junction of South Canterbury Road with Ethelbert Road
The Langton Path to the end of the school playing fields, rugby club, over the A2 bridge and down to Merton Farm. Footpath through Merton Farm, later Iffin Lane and connecting to footpath to New House Lane and then down into Larkey Valley Wood. Through the wood, coming out on Cockering Road, which we walk along until we get to the footpath for New House Lane, then along Hollow Lane turning into the orchard, later over the bridge along Stuppington Lane to the junction with South Canterbury Road, where the walk finishes.
6 miles.

Packed lunch/elevenses (a thermos of warm tea or coffee makes for a nice break during the walk).
We last did this very pleasant walk on 25 August, 2022 – it’s time to enjoy it again!

Last week’s North West Passage to Whitstable Walk:
The midweek walk will start from the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.
The weather forecast for Wednesday is an improvement on the two previous weeks.This week the walk will climb up to the university and on to Giles Lane. We’ll continue to Alcroft Grange and take the lower path on Barton Down to Vauxhall Road. Crossing the Sturry Road We’ll return to the city centre via the Community Parkand cycle track. The coffee venue will be decided by consensus near the walks end.

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:00 am
Proceed upto Little Barton House, then across the orchards later crossing Bekesbourne Lane to the rear of Hoath Farm onto a footpath, through the young orchard, down a dip, up to tree line and bear right along edge of wood. At path T junction, next to gate into field, turn left and follow path up to Littlebourne road. Just before Littlebourne Road turn right and follow path into wood then onto rutted track then asphalt. Turn right onto asphalt farm track and follow to Woolton Farm. Through farm and follow track uphill to re-join Bekesbourne Lane. Turn right onto BL and after a third of a mile, past the old people’s home, left onto track to railway bridge. Just before bridge turn right onto footpath down into wood, through wood and out onto edge of field. Bear right and follow track back to Little Barton House then down Spring Lane where the walk finishes. 6 miles.
