Thursday 12 October 2023 – The Villages walk (anti-clockwise)

Meet at K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance, at 8.30am.

We will go out past the rugby ground through Nackington, Whitehill Woods, skirt Lower Hardres, Bridge, Patrixbourne, bypass Littlebourne through Lower Garrington Farm, Ickham, Wickhambreaux, Stodmarsh, Fordwich and home along the cycle route to Canterbury.

About 15 miles, with plenty of opportunities to stop for lunch at one of the churches. Short cut by taking the bus back from Littlebourne or Sturry.

Wednesday Walk – 11 October, 2023

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am for a two hour walk followed by coffee.

 
The direction of the walk will be decided on the day but it will be no longer than five miles.

when the summer bedding is removed to make way for the bulbs and spring flowers.
Surely one of the best places in the city to meet each week and also to enjoy the changing seasons.

SSS307 – Tuesday 10 October, 2023 – The Don’s Walk

Meet 8.00 am at St. Martin’s Church

Stour Valley Way to Fordwich (forking right – off bike route) scary bit after Fordwich for 200 yds then turn right up hill to Stodmarsh Road via CCCU playing field. Across Stodmarsh Rd, footpath straight on then veer right into field and down to Lampen Stream. Turn right along bottom of field following stream for 400 yards, then turn left across stream and up the hill to old waste dump, right onto Swanton Lane, then straight across and down past Firdown Wood. Before the bare field at near Palmstead wood turn right and proceed towards the Hoath Farm (the last bit is along Bekesborne Road, thus exercise care), then right and left and thus to Hoath Farm, home via Little Barton House. 6 miles.

Thursday, 5 October, 2023 – Canterbury to Temple Ewell (by an innovative route)

This week’s walk will be led by Peter.

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road @ 8:30am.  Packed lunch.

The route initially follows the NDW but branches off at Patrixbourne towards Adisham, later Woolage Green then Coldred, onward via Captains Wood, under the A2 to Temple Ewell for the Number 15 bus back to Canterbury.  There are possibilities to leave the walk earlier and return by train or bus.  12 miles and fun.

Meet corner of Nunnery Fields/Nunnery Road @ 8am

This week’s walk will be led by Bert.

Nunnery Road/Zealand Road/Lime Kiln Road/Fields to Hollow Lane/Footpath to New House Lane/Connecting footpath to Iffin Lane/Footpath to Bridge Road/Footpath to Lower Hardes Church then along the lane for the path through Whitehill Wood back via Bridge Road and Nackington, via Rugby Club, to the Hospital. (6 miles).

Thursday, 28 September, 2023 The Dane John Circle

Meet outside 25 St. Augustine’s Road at 8:30am

Packed lunch/refreshment for this 14 mile walk along the far south side of Canterbury, as the walk follows a path, which is never far from the centre of Canterbury it is possible to leave the walk at any point and return to Canterbury.

St. Augustine’s Road, NDW, Renville, cross Bridge Road into Whitehill Wood, Pett Bottom, Tapley’s Hill, cross the Roman Road to Petham, Garlinge Green, Perry Hill Shaw, Larkey Valley Wood, straight across Cockering Road towards the A28, footpath toward Howfield Farm and Tonford Manor, SVW to Toddlers Cove the Dane John where the walk finishes.

Wednesday Walk – 27 September, 2023

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am and join Steve who will be leader of the pack this week.

 
No decision on where to walk as it will be decided on the day. The walk will be no longer than two hours followed by coffee at as yet
an undecided venue.

SSS305 – Tuesday 26 September, 2023 – Around The Woods Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the hospital – junction of South Canterbury Road with Ethelbert Road

Walk to Rugby Club then, via Nackington to Bridge Road and into Whitehill Wood: turn left at the cross paths heading towards Bridge.  We continue straight ahead at the next cross paths then, at the path T junction, we turn right along the bridal path, keeping to the side of the woods until we come onto Pett Bottom Road at Little Eaton Farm.  Walking towards the Duck we turn right (Tapleys Hill) and, later, right again (School Lane), proceeding uphill we turn into the woods again at the footpath sign but, as we approach the path, leading to Pett Bottom Road, we turn left towards the centre of the wood and continue straight on; later crossing Bridge Road and back through Nackington, the Rugby Club, turning left at the Langton Path towards Stuppington Lane.  The walk concludes at the junction with South Canterbury Road.

Thursday, 21 September, 2023 – The Royal Victoria Pavilion Walk

Meet 8:30 am at Canterbury Bus Station (Bay C2) for Bus 8 towards Westwood Cross, which the Striders will disembark at Birchington (bus departs Canterbury 8:40am) – cost £2.

Walk leader Barry will then guide the Silver Striders, along a 380m ascent, to the Royal Victoria Pavilion, Ramsgate where the walk concludes. About 12 miles.
