Wednesday Walk – 20 September, 2023

We’ll be meeting at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am. The walk will take us on a circular route

around Barton Down finishing at the refurbished Fringe and Ginge for coffee.

The pic from last week’s walk finds the lads on the university campus. Apparently there wasn’t anything they wanted to attend on Week 1 of FRESHERS 2023.

SSS304 – Tuesday 19 September, 2023 – Nick’s Walk

Meet by St Mary Bredin Church at 8:00am

Toddler’s cove via Lansdown Road

SVW to near Tonford Manor; at the bridge to Thanington turn right (not left) onto the footpath, walk past Tonford Manor, under the A2 then:

Turn left on footpath into Lower Harbledown, through St Nicholas’s Hospital into Harbledown and left at the Church then over the road bridge and through the meadow to the top – towards Blean water tower and right on the footpath to St Dunstan’s back over the railway bridge and then home via Toddler’s Cove and under the ring road bridge by the river or through Westgate Gardens and Greyfriars.  6 miles.

Thursday 14 September 2023 – Wye via the river and NDW

Meet 8.30am St Mary Bredin Church.

The walk is about 13 miles, with a train back from Wye. Bring a packed lunch or snack.

Short cut possibility by taking train or bus back from Chilham.

Through Toddlers cove, along the river route to Chartham, Shalmsford Street. Via Stile farm to Chilham. Mountain street and North Downs Way through Kings Wood. Wye via Perry Court Farm shop.

Wednesday Walk – 13 September, 2023

We’ll meet as usual at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.

The weather forecast for the walk is for sunny intervals and light winds with temperatures not higher than 18 degrees.
A perfect morning for a stroll.
The walk will probably circle Barton Down and will take no longer than the well established time of two hours.

SSS303 – Tuesday 12 September, 2023 – Reverse The Steve’s Walk

Meet @ 8:00 am outside the Hospital (junction of Ethelbert and South Canterbury Roads)

The Langton Path to the end of the school playing fields, rugby club, over the A2 bridge and proceed to Nackington, Whitehill Wood, Lower Hardes.  Work back from Lower Hardes to New House Lane and then back to South Canterbury Road via A2 bridge crossing in Stuppington Lane.

Thursday 7th September 2023 – A tour around selected water bodies


A 12 mile saunter deep in the countryside, returning by bus.

There is a shorter option, 5 or 6 miles, catching a bus back from Littlebourne.

Meeting at :
67 St Augustines Road at 8:30.

We then go direct to Patrixbourne, skirting south of Garrington, then Littlebourne, Seaton, Preston Court, Grove Ferry.

Options you may enjoy :-
Watercress and or blackberry gathering (bring a bag or box).
Food at Grove Ferry (meal or snack) or take your own packed lunch.

Must haves that you will regret if you forget them :
Your BUS PASS.

Wednesday Walk – 6 September 2023

Meet at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens at 8:30am.

The main part of the walk will circle Barton Down. Probably the last opportunity to pick blackberries this season.

SSS302 – Tuesday 5 September 2023 – Stuppington variation

Meet 8am, K&C Hospital, South Canterbury Road entrance

Through the hospital, onto the cycle route and past the rugby field. Cross the bridge and turn right into Merton Lane until we reach Merton Farm. Take the footpath towards Lower Heppington and turn right until we reach Iffin Lane. Footpath linking Iffin with New House Lane, and then alongside the Road and eventually into Wincheap. About 6 miles.

Thursday, 31 August, 2023 – Whitstable to Faversham

Bring packed lunch/refreshment for en route stops.  Faversham offers other opportunities, including Wetherspoons.

Meet at Canterbury Bus Station to catch the 8:35 Triangle bus to Whitstable (Bay B1) – 35 mins.

We follow the coast path between Whitstable and Faversham Creek.

Bus back to Canterbury (3 or X3 – travel time 28 mins):

12:54;13:24; 13:54; 14:24

Distance: 10 miles

Wednesday Walk 30 August, 2023

Wednesday Walkers will meet again this week at the main entrance to the Westgate Gardens for an 8:30am start.

 
The pic from last week is kindly supplied by Les. He reports of a jolly seaside walk between Whitstable and Herne Bay on a sunnier than
usual day. Instead of coffee the occasion demanded ice creams all round. Les recommends the rhubarb and custard flavour.
